Event Tiers

Tier III (3)

Tier 3 events are by far the most common kind of events hosted with Minnesota Furs.  These events are very simple things, usually requiring the planning and work of no more than one or two individuals.  These events usually are not expected to have any attendances greater than 50 individuals, with 20-30 being the most common.  They also have little or no demand for money or resources from Minnesota Furs, or any expenses are incurred out of pocket by the event runner and/or attendees.  Advertising for such events usually include only one or two reminders in the various media channels of Minnesota Furs.  These can include but are not limited to:

  • Dinner Outings
  • Movie Nights
  • Bowling Events
  • Trips to local events
  • Fursuit Romps

Requirements for a Tier 3 event include submission of the volunteer hours tracking forms, any membership signup forms, and a minimum 1 calendar month between event submission and event date.  (This means that if your event were to take place on February 1st (2/1) you would need to submit your event using the event submission form no later than January 1st (1/1).)

Tier II (2)

Tier 2 events tend to be larger, and may have some, but not significant, risk or expense related to their operations.  These kind of events usually require a small group of volunteers.  Membership at events may range from 50-200 individuals, though certain instances may be less or more.  This tier of event may request access to various resources at Minnesota Furs disposal, and/or the use of Minnesota Furs fiscal resources for needs such as space rental and equipment usage fees.  For questions of what would be covered please contact the Events staff.  Expense reimbursement should not be expected to be greater than $100 for such an event.  Advertising will be done on the front page of the Minnesota Furs website, and Tier 2 events include but are not limited to:

  • Holiday Parties
  • Training Courses offered by Minnesota Furs
  • ZooBoo
  • Parade Attendance

Requirements for Tier 2 events include submission of volunteer tracking forms, any membership forms and must be submitted a minimum of 2 calendar months before the event date.  (This means that for an event to take place on March 1st (3/1) the event must be submitted by January 1st (1/1).)  While attendance before and after at community meetings is not required it is heavily encouraged for this class of event.

Tier I (1)

Tier 1 events are the biggest events hosted by Minnesota Furs.  These events are highlighting endeavors that require the concerted efforts of multiple volunteers to carry off successfully.  These style events may have high attendance or significant expenditures and are as much a presentation of our community as they are a social event, and therefore have higher expectations.  Attendance can be expected to be in excess of 200+ members, or representing the group to a significant number of non-members of Minnesota Furs.  This may also require significant use of Minnesota Furs capital to run the event.

A noted change from lower tier events and tier 1 events is that due to their nature as representing our community and being significant investments of time and resources, Tier 1 events MUST be approved by the Minnesota Board of Directors before being allowed to go forward.

Tier 1 events include, but are not limited to:

  • Annual Picnics
  • Official Room Parties at non-Furry Migration conventions
  • Convention-like Events

Tier 1 events require: submission of volunteer tracking forms and review sheets for event and any membership forms.  Tier one events must be submitted at a MINIMUM of 3 months prior to the event, with a recommendation of at least 6 months prior being preferred.  (For example, an event scheduled for July 1st (7/1) MUST be submitted no later than April 1st (4/1) and preferably by January 1st (1/1).)  These events MUST have approval from the Board of Directors.  Event runners for this tier of events also must attend community meetings before and after this scale of event to report on planning, progress, and the final  event execution.

Any questions on these event tiers and their requirements, please contact the Events staff!  They can be reached via email at events@mnfurs.org.
