The Spring Picnic started out like a sunny Roman day and the end up with the weather reminding us that we are still in Minnesota spring. Through all this changing weather a furry good picnic time was had by all.

Remember – these picnics are put on by support of our local MNFurs community – your help makes it possible for MNFurs to make these events happen.

If you have any feedback please post a message in our Spring Picnic Forums. It’s a great way for your comments to be heard.

Also if you have any pictures you want to put up in the MNFurs Photo Gallery please send a message through the Contact Us Form and someone will help you get the pictures up in the gallery.

Again thanks for coming to the Spring Picnic everyone! We hope to have you back for other events like the upcoming MNFurs BYOF at the GPS center and Cat Days our two day hotel event.

Just a friendly reminder to grab your togas for a day of lounging and socializing at Blackhawk Park in Eagan this Saturday, May 19th from 10:00AM to 10:00PM.

As usual, this event is made possible by all of your generosity.  Just as picnics in the past, it’s your donations and efforts that enable the group to continue these events.  As we come to the final days before the event, we could use some of the following donations:

• Monetary Donation (Will be offering commemorative badges for $5.  All procedes go to fund more MNFur activities.)
• Food for yourself and to share (Traditionally, protein for yourself, and a side to share.)
• Firewood
• Charcoal (For personal use and to share)
• Grills (Preferably charcoal, but gas is ok too.  Must provide your own gas.)
• Drinks (Non-alcoholic.  For yourself and/or to share.  Cans preferred for sharing.)

Also – MNFurs will be taking pre-registration for Cat Days(a 2 day hotel event) throughout the day.

Times up, reminders are over. Only think now to do is get your horses, check out your provisions, and get ready to ride your chariot out to the MNFurs Spring 2012 Picnic – “When in Rome”.

This is replacing our normal June 9th bi-weekly meet.

We are looking for talented individuals to send to the Colosseum – scratch that;
to throw to the lions? – scratch that too.

Let’s start again!
We are looking to our art community tolend us a paw in creating the badge design for the Spring Picnic! Our theme this year is When in Rome. Perhaps your image will play on the Colosseum, or perhaps the Roman Gods, or maybe even Roman Numerals. Let your creativity really show!

Requirements:

Badge dimensions: 4″ width x 3″ height
Badge Theme: When In Rome
Must have: “MNFurs Spring Picnic 2012″ on the badge
Must have: A space for the individual wearing the badge to write his or her name.
Must be: Must be an image suitable for all age groups.
Due Date: May 1st

The most unique, creative and artistic badge will be chosen as the final badge design to be distributed atthe Picnic. Even if your design is not chosen, all of the badge submissions will be on display the day of the picnic.

To submit your badge for consideration, send your badge submission to 2012springpicnic@mnfurs.org. If your badge entry is bigger than 25 megabytes then use the email address above to inquire about alternative ways of getting the badge submitted.

In just 4 days MNfurs is going to be running its first room party in front of 5,000 Anime fans!  Thanks to the hard prep work and planning of many volunteers, we are on track on showing that the furry fandom is no weirder  and can have more creative fun than most other fandoms.

However, we are not done yet. We got to put the final pieces in place and you can help. Even if you do not have an Anime Detour badge, you are allowed to help this Thusday March 29th at 6PM to install all the gear, art, tables and flyers into room 210 at the Edina Doubletree hotel just north highway 100 and 494.

Come see our space and see what we have planed to wow the audience.Anyone who helps will be allowed to join the “cast party” on Sunday, April 1st at 6PM to view all the pictures and share in all the stories from the convention.

The Anime Detour 2012 schedule has been finalized. There are panels and room parties happening all weekend, but these are the highlights of what MNFurs is doing during this exciting high energy weekend.

Panels

• Friday @ 5:00pm – Furrydom 101 – Learn about the exciting furry culture, what makes a furry, and if you may be one as well. We’ll do Q&A, have fun, and maybe learn something too.
• Saturday @ 9:00am – Kemono Anime - This panel focuses on the sub-genre of anime know as Kemono. We will look at the reasons for this style of storytelling and the genre’s evolution too.
• Saturday @ 10:30am - Fursuiting. This panel will explain fursuits and answer questions on construction, wearing, and technique. We’ll discuss acting and how to handle fursuiters.
• Saturday @ 6:00pm – Crossover in Furry and Anime Art. Analyze the growing intersection of anime and furry art. Examples from comics as well as various artists and techniques.

Room Party – Being Held in Room 210

• Thursday @ 6:00pm to late – Setup on MNFurs room.
• Friday @ 6:00pm to close – Kemodo Crossing Art – Art and furry combine together to make cute badges for the Anime Detour con goers.
• Saturday @ 10:00am to 4:00pm – Kemodo Crossing Fursuit Photograph – Anime Detour attendants can get their picture with a fursuitter
• Saturday @ 6:00pm – Kemodo Crossing Potporri – General furry fun in the room. Hang out and talk about the furry in general.
• Sunday Morning – Tear-down of room

MNFurs is proud to announce Cat Days.  It will be held on August 4th from 1:00pm to 1:00am with an 18+ pre-event on August 3rd from 5:00pm to Midnight.  It will be located at the Crown Plaza Minneapolis Airport by the Mall of America.

Pre-registration will be price will be $15 for Saturday, or $25 for Friday & Saturday. Baring any technical issues, and you all know how hard it is for us pawed creatures not to have technical issues, we’ll have an online registration and payment system  before the next meet for those in our community that can’t made it to our bi-weekly meets.

Friday night we have a social area for artists and gamers as well as a ConSuite area for a quieter place to have conversations.   Since this is an 18+ event we’re allowed to have artwork that is greater than PG-13.   Your host for this event will be our always gracious Kellic.

Saturday is an open to all ages event with a fursuit and general panel tracks, as well as a social/gaming/artists space, consuite, and a fursuit lounge.   We ask that artists keep their works PG-13 during this event as minors will be around.  Your host for this day will be Mouring who also be one of your photographers.  Oh, wait did we forget that in our list of activities?  That must have slipped our minds with all the preparation work.
