Hi, I'm Ben "Mouring" Lindstrom.  Some may know me from from FA. I'm working through what my personal photography goals are for 2011, and I wanted to see if there is enough interest in the community for a 5 to 10 person "photography exploration events" in 2011.

The idea would be finding a knowledgeable person within the fandom (or adjacent to it) willing to host an event (e.g. 30 minute intro, 2 hours of shooting, 30 minute wrap up) on one topic–such as macro, captive wildlife, landscape, composition, still life, portraits, convention shooting, lighting, etc.  These groups could be made up of all DSLR folks, all Point and Shoot folks, or a mix of both depending on the community interest and the event itself.

I'm willing to host (or act as an coordinator/assistant) for a few events in 2011 as a trial. Some events could be free, some events may have a cost to cover location fees (e.g. renting space for convention shooting, in-door portraits, lighting, etc).

If you are interested please reply stating the type of camera(DSLR or P&S), if you have something you'd like to explore, and if you are willing to host or assistant in an event.  If there is enough interest I will talk to Kurst about making a sub-forum and will start working on a trial event for early 2011.

id be interested in doing something like this. though id rather go out and take pictures of wildlife and landscapes then still life or portraits. main reason is i took a class in highschool that taught the basics of a DSLR camera.

i have a Nikon D70 camera i can use it as a P&S or a DSLR (mainly use it as P&S) looking to get a newer camera when i get the money.

im not interested in being a host or assistant but if i have to ill assist someone.

I may be interested in something like this. I could not host such a thing, but might be fun to be a part of.

I use a Nikon D80 for DSLR

I might be interested in helping with this.  I'm pretty sure you know what I have allready, a Canon Rebel T1i.  I've been involved in two photography clubs and have entered some work into competition before.

I'd be good for doing a panel on getting the most out of an entry-level DSLR or something and the dispelling the myth that you can't get good photography out of entry level gear when your on a budget; something to that extent.

Due to the current lackluster response, I'm going to table this for about 8 to 9 months.

Thank you for your time in responding.
