Hey all!

It might be awhile before I can attend one of these get-togethers at Perkins, as my job likes to schedule me on Saturdays, but I was wondering what the average turnout at these things is and what sorts of things I can expect; seating, activities, will I get for-realz glomped, all that kind of stuff.

Any tips on etiquette besides "You should probably buy some food." and "Don't be a jerk to anyone." are also very welcome. ^.^

I'd say theres around 20 or so people minumum/on average, and theres a decent amount of seating. Every couple of months it gets very busy with extra people and its a little tighter. We always sit in the far back of perkins. Theres generally some card games, and just talk about activities. I know the artists go to Caribou and what not. Its over all kinda fun and a good way to meet other people in the group.

As for etiquette: Its still a private establishment. We cant fursuit, and the using of 'leashes' and other items that can be considered more 'private' clothing/items shouldnt be brought. Try to keep the volume level down, we're not the only ones that eat there. Ears/Tails/hats ect are all fine, and fun. If you have a badge, those are GREAT to help people get to know you. Also the glomping is not so much =b Again since its a private institution we try to make sure we're not disturbing the other customers. And glomping has a way of either getting someone hurt, knocking into something ect. Over all, just have fun, just dont get into what I call "hyper con mode' .

I think thats it from what Ive seen and from what I've gone to. A good idea is to always hunt out the steering group and just say hi, and see what the plan for the night is. They may or may not make an announcement, where theyll ask for volunteers or if anyone has any activities they want to plan or anything, so if you do decide you want to do something, then would be a great time to get it sponsored/approved/checked out.

Anyway, welcome to the group and hope you have fun. I dont go to every meet, but Im there from time to time =)

Furmeets can be as few as 20 to as many as 80 (usually it's somewhere in the middle).  The official meet location is Perkins but the meet almost always spills over to Caribou across the street.  Some people only meet at the Perkins, some only choose to meet at the Caribou, and many of us mingle from one establishment to the other as the night goes on.

You can also expect there to be a higher percentage of table-top gamers at the Perkins than at Caribou – which I suppose had to do with the general atmosphere of the two places.  The coffee shop seems to encourage more non-gaming type socialization.

In either location, please make sure to introduce yourself to a few people.  I know it can be a little awkward for some to approach such a large group, but once you introduce yourself people are pretty friendly.

As for other expectations – you should expect people to respect your space – so no worries about being glomped for real unless you want to be.  Also, if you are expecting fursuits, you won't see that until either Anime Detour, or the Spring Picnic (depending on which you go to).  If you are expecting to make friends, that's a pretty fair expectation and I wouldn't be surprised if you acquired some new ones. =)

As far as etiquette goes, as Sike said, just general common sense etiquette that you would follow at any restaurant.  Be aware of the waiters – make sure to tip them well because they do a lot for the group.  Also be aware that there are other customers so try not to be too loud or curse or anything like that.

All that said, welcome to the group!

Thanks for the timely responses and the info!

I'm gonna shoot for the next Perkins meet as the St. Cloud event, while certainly within my range of interests, is just too far a drive for me to justify on my budget, well, alone anyway. I don't expect any strangers to be volunteering to hop in my car with me and help me split the cost of gas on a 1.5 hour drive. =P

I'm assuming the "steering group" is sort of like the organizers/ movers and shakers at the event and a "badge" is just a good old fashioned name-tag or something like that but if anyone wishes to clarify, feel free! ^.^

I'm sadly lacking in the tail department (my key lanyard is substituting and doing a rather poor job, though at least it's red) but if I can obtain a bright red, fairly fluffy one AND have a place to wear it at these meets I'll be extremely satisfied with just that. Any tips on where I can possibly get one (quality, fairly priced and well-reputed websites or maybe a specialty store in the state I haven't heard of) would also be greatly appreciated. ^.^

Here is my opinion what the "steering group" is.

The steering group is members of the local community who are making a commitment to trying to foster, grow, and support the local furry community. They are just some of the people that are dedicating time and resources to help make sure events are run and communication is kept in the community.  Some of the members do not run events themselves, some do.  Some help on the technical sides.  Some don't.  But they are all working on a common goal of fostering and supporting the community.

At least that is my view.

For more information read the "about us" page.

anyone wishes to clarify, feel free! ^.^

Badge – any name badge.  Mind you the furry community is very much liking to put art and personalization on the badge.  So a lot of name badges are work of art.  I usually don't wear a name badge at the meet.  But that is a personal preference.

MY tails I have are either were gifts or came from my suit.  So I really don't have a good advice.  Though I got to say I usually don't wear a tail at the meets because they are usually a little too small for space but events like picnics, hotel events. etc  I do.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG *RUNS AROUND AFTER MY OWN TAIL* OMG IT'S A TAIL!

Thank you for the Clarifications, Kurst!

I'll certainly seek you guys out whenever I can get out to one of these shindigs and introduce myself, maybe I can modify a name tag from one of my previous jobs as a place-holder til I can get a feel for this whole badge thing.

HackSawDog also provided a little insight on the tail business in chat, so I'll be looking into that as soon as I have some extra cash to play around with.

Thanks for the info, all, and more is always welcome! ^.^
