Since both meets in December have been canceled; there has been a lot of discussion of people wanting to have an Impromptu meet on the last non-meet Saturday in December.
Mark your calanders, because we are now GO for the 18th! Kudos goes to Perkins for being so flexable on such short notice.
Same time: 5pm. Directions to Perkins are on the Bi-Weekly meet link at the top of the page.

I'll try to make it myself. I might have family in town or not. if they are I can't.
Mind you I might not be in MN that's also a possibility.

Happenstance and I should be able to make it (weather permitting… I heard something about more snow on the way). Thank you for considering the alternate date and calling Perkins.

my friend k0mplex and i went to the meet, our first time. we were really nervous and we didn't seem very welcomed. no one came up and said hi to us. it was very awkward and dissapointing. i was really looking forward to going for the first time, but it was like we weren't even there. i mean, i know i could have said hi and what not, but i thought atleast everyone would be a little more welcoming to new people. i dont think i'll be going again, i really wanted to meet local furs too.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. The turnout was ok, but the meet seemed rather lacking in some ways. It really wasn't like a normal meet, so it wasn't a good one to judge things by. It seemed rather more laid-back.
However, I'm not going to let the drama go easily. It's a shame you weren't welcomed, but that's it? You're not coming back? You didn't make any sort of annoucement that you were coming and new, yet you expected people to notice you and take action.
Your words and actions are at odds with one another. If you really want to meet local furs, try again.

Well, we don't have a welcoming committee so if you don't say hi and introduce yourself you can't meet anyone. Keep in mind that many of us are pretty shy ourselves.
My first meet was very awkward as well. I showed up and looked around at the group for 5 minutes before heading to the other room and eating. After eating I went back and looked around for an hour before I left feeling really creepy like I was somehow intruding. The next meet was very similar except I stayed a little longer. By the third meet, someone noticed I had been showing up and wandering so they talked me into playing a game and that's when I actually started to meet people.
Bottom line is, I wouldn't give up on the meets until after you talked to a few people. To get you over the nervousness all I can really do is give you a target. Normally you will find a group of us playing games in the middle of the room. Find them and introduce yourself and I'm sure they will do their best make you feel more welcome. Or you can just search for me. I always wear a dog tag with a blue silencer on it.

The meets are a place to go and meet people, but I agree with Happenstance and Cyber here. You have to make some effort into making yourself known? Had you posted to the forums earlier that you would be there and it was going to be your first time, then yes; I'm sure people would have been looking for you.
As far as icebreakers go, a number of us do play board and card games. We were playing apples to apples earlier in the day, which is a great social game and anyone is welcome to join in. For as long as I've been attending the meets; I still am not the best to randomly walk up to someone and start small talk. If someone approaches me, or engages in something like a board game; that's different.
You also have to remeber that a lot of people come to the meets to hang out with their friends. You aren't being ignored, but making friends does require an effort to let people know that you are looking for said friends. My first meet I was rather shy too. I didn't do much other then observe. The next few meets I started to introduce myself and made some friends; a number of which who I still have to this day.

It all depends on the time and the location.
But with any organization that doesn't have an agenda there is no meet and greet and really no time people are coming in specifically for it.
You really do have to just say hi. I know it hurts as my personality it took me multiple times before I felt comfortable. Again even I feel some days I am alone there.
ONe my other recommendation for anyone new going to a group function. Introduce yourself to someone that is going there before and have them take you there. I promise it really helps in both social and professional events.

Sounds like a standard furmeet here to me.

The only reason you feel unwelcome at the furmeets, Pepper, is because everyone has learned to avoid you. Maybe people would want to be around you if you were not such an asshole.
As far as new furs go though, be sure to let yourself be heard. Chances are, letting someone know you're there for the fur meet is all it takes to be welcomed into the group.

I usually try to say hello to new people when I see them. Many of us were busy chatting or gaming, and like me, didn't noticed you. If you are shy I'd ask for you to give the meet another try. There's always a table in the center devoted to games and they make for a very nice ice breaker when meeting new people. Don't give up just yet. There are a lot of awesome people locally.

Usually when new people come along, I always introduce myself and show them around. Unfortunately I was in Colorado at the time.
I hope in the new year that you decide to come back and try it again! :3

Admittedly it can be hard for some folks to meet new people. I, personally, find myself on the sidelines of most chats, only listening in for the most part. It's not that I'm a snob or anything, it's just that small talk and socializing with others isn't my strong point. While I'm still new here and really getting to know people, I look forward to slwly getting to know folks, so never be afraid to say Hi. :3
