(0 votes) If you haven't heard by now, Gaylaxicon is going to have some furry programming this year. Kyell Gold and Sofawolf are listed as guests of honor, so don't be surprised when you find them in the dealer's room as well. Some of us are working on panels to run during the convention, some with the purpose of introducing our fandom to the non-furry attendees and some that will explore furry topics of interest to all. There is also an art show for any of the artists looking to show off their artwork.
There is a group rate available, so we are trying to put together a group to make it more affordable for people to go. Depending on the number of people we get in our group, it'll cost $55-$65, instead of $80. I have a stack of registration forms, let me know if you are interested and we'll get you registered.
We are also thinking about having a small room party. This is still being developed and we'll let you know more when we can.
Gaylaxicon will run October 5-7 in Minneapolis. Hotel information is on their site.
Update: I will be collecting registrations for this at the July 7th meet where you will be able to pay with cash or check. There will be some representatives from Gaylaxicon at Cat Days collecting registrations and they will be able to accept payment using credit as well as cash or check.
We will start out collecting $65 dollars. If we get 20 people, those that paid $65 will get $10 back from the Gaylaxicon staff taking our registrations. These rates will be available at MNFurs events until Sep. 20th when pre-registration closes and anybody getting the $10 refund must do so before this date. At the door you have to pay $90.
Due to the larger than reasonable registration fees to get into it, I'm boycotting Gaylaxicon. I'd like to go someday, but the fee is unreasonable, IMO.
But BoardgameGeek Con (BGG) is just as expensive and I can't afford that either, so…
The cost is the reason we are pushing the group rate. It's the best compromise we can get right now between the cutthroat rate furries are used to seeing for their conventions, and the rate this convention needs to operate. If they are confident that their membership is growing, they should be more inclined to lower the price in the future. You might have to wait three years to find out though, it's a roving con.

Maybe if it quit moving around the damn world it'd have more attendance/cheaper registration?
OfflineI'm always up for events that our group has a presence at and ill definitely go (can u contact me as far as where/how I pay for this at the group price?)
thats great that they are taking a chance on including furry/anthro into things and even offer a discount, I do sorta understand Detour not doing it (since they max out so fast they probably arent willing to give discounts) and Animinneapolis is pretty cheap (20-25 bucks) as it stands.
Anyway just raising a paw to say ill be there to support our group and community.
We need a total of 20 for the $55 rate, or 10 for the $65 rate.
We will be able to collect registrations for this at the next meet (July 7th) and at Cat Days. If someone is unable to make it to the meet or Cat Days, they can send an email to [email protected] and I'll see what kind of alternative I can provide.
After Cat Days, email me for instructions.
I have updated the original post with more information regarding registering using the group rate.
something came to mind today and I was wondering…
Is there any plans while they still are looking for programming to run a Furrydom 101 panel there to at least introduce the fandom and give a way to people to learn about furry and not be wondering about it when they look and see that theres a furry guest of honor and Sofawolf there…
hell if there isnt and leadership thinks its a good idea id be willing to do it if we can recycle / tweak Sike's Furrydom 101 to this audience and me and 1 or 2 others present it…
With the disclaimer that these are still being worked on and not officially going to happen until they are approved by the convention staff, we have the following panels in mind.
Furry 101
Fursuiting 101
Homosexual and Furry
Cyborgs of Furry
Some of these are in the works, some are still just suggestions and need people to help run them.
I'll mention your interest in the Furry 101 panel, Skystrider.
Hello Folks!
I am going to have a dealer's table at Gaylaxicon this year. With that, I get a second membership badge. My partner can not go. Is there anyone that would like a part of the dealer's table for their wares? If there is anyone that would like to share the table OR help me man the table, flip me $40 and the membership is yours.

OfflineWell, this was a good deal of fun. It is a good sign that I lost my voice.
We are currently packing up from a fairly successful room party. Attendance of convention was just shy of 300. The panels were very well attended and the guest were wonderful. Kyell Gold was a hoot and local producer Sofawolf was as welcoming as always.
I think, if nothing else, we have shown, yet again, that we have friends in many corner of fandom and they can be just as welcoming as us as we are to them. People are far less "ewww, look a furry" and generally "Okay, explain to me, what is furry?". With patience, a little knowledge, some canned phrases, and a good diplomacy roll, I think we have proven once again you can demystify our past-time and find some good common ground and context.
It was a great weekend, I look forward towards our next room party at Anime detour in April 2013!
OfflineI was there! It's the first convention I've been to and the first step I've had into the local group. I had a blast and it was cool to meet a bunch of you. I'm the one that sat quietly in the corner at the room party in the fox hoodie. I don't have a whole lot to say but I'm glad I've finally been able to get a foot in the door and I hope to be around and come to some of the events.
