As we al must admit, many of the furs, including myself, are on a budget so spending money for a DDO subscription is out of the question.  I suggested DDO as LAN game of choice because of the "free" price tag.  However, it has been pointed out by some that the free content feel quickly depleted and thier feeling like they need to buy more turbine points (commonly referred to as TP's) to remain intrested.  Should they?

My answer is long because I want to explore how to get the biggest bang for buck (or not spending any if you can avoid it)

First off, learn the first 4 Korthos quest by heart. These are Heytons crypt, the storehouse, the cannith crystal, and then finish with collaborator. 2nd, learn to build a solid starting character (Melee, Ranger or war cleric is recommended) and do these quest in each character slot on every server, not just Kyber.  Why? At the end of the Collaborator quest you get a one time 25 TP bonus per character slot/server for finishing collaborator.   Although this does not seem like much, you can do these first 4 quest in an hour with some practice.  In about 2 days time, you will have 300-600 turbine points, depending if you have a free or premium account.  Now you can only do this trick once, but it will likly be enouph for you first expansion pack.

From here feel free to learn how to do the Korthos 100, also known as favor grinding.   It is common for groups to form doing all of korthos on elite with a high level character opening elite and doing most of the damage while the rest just kinda fallow along.  You may find the lead character's level so high that your getting little to no experience, but that is ok as XP is not the point. The objective is that by completing all of Korthos on elite can be done in about 2 hours, and apon finishing misery's peak you are at 76 favor.  Most groups will do a few harbor quests (usually information is key, durk's got a secret, and ringleader) to get the remaining 24 points to get 100 favor.  At 100 favor, you get 25 turbine points.  Although this method is slow (takes about 3 hours) it does provide TP indefinitly for free. Want another 25 and are bored, delete you "Alt" character and do a korthos 100.  I've recieved most of my TP this way.  Many of you have meet "tourguide", even though the character has been built and deleted over 2 dozen times.

Lastly, if you do just buy points, do it cheap.  Wait for a sale when Turbine is selling a bundle of points for cheap.   If you want to do it sooner or not in a habit at looking at Turbine store frequently, ask me. Discovered recently Target sells the Turbine cards and with my discount I can get 750 TP for 9$,  not the cheapest point per dollar spent but is by far the most efficient than the other "low cost" methodes from the Turbine store outside a sale.  If you are looking to spend a minimum amount of money but still spend the money so you are entitled to a premium account setting (this allows for 4 characters per server, as apossed to 2) and still have more than enougph points to buy an expansion pack or 2, i suggest chatting to me next meet.

A faster favor run would be to skip Misery's and two of the other Korthos quests (Redemtion comes to mind, as does Sacrifices) and swap in Stealthy Repossession, Bringing the Light, and Sunken Sewer. If there's an Elite opening guide with quick feet, these quests are all fast. Especially with a somewhat powerful arcane caster or bard, as they can mesmerize most of the enemies do the locked door path in Sewer.

Also, do the 100-favor loop on all servers at least once. There are numerous Favor reward bonuses for "first time to X favor on each server" (the TP bonus is for first character to 5 favor, not doing the Collaborator, it's also supposed to be a 50-point bonus, now). The first 100 favor on each server will grant a total of125 TP (50 at 5 favor, 25 at 25, and 25 at 50, plus the normal 25 at 100). The other "extra" bonus TP tiers are at 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 favor, and are worth 50, 100, 100, and 100 TP, and are really not worth going after for grinding.

Also, there is a total of 1052 Favor available to Free players, although that requires Eliting all free quests, including 2 at level 15 (with only one for 13 and no free 14), and one at level 18 (with no free level 16-17 quests)

While I understand the appeal of Favor Farming (free TP), I can't really condone it. It just takes ages, and isn't fun to me. Since the game is all about being fun, I choose to spend the money to save the time. It can be handy for a little push (especially those first server rewards), or to buy something fun and consumable, I just don't find it a reliable way to make any serious amount of points. Also, going premium (buying points even once) is nice for the extra free character slots. It's worth considering even if you never buy points again if you really like the game.

Wish I had known that 1) you worked at Target, and 2) your discount applied to Turbine cards. I would probably have hit you up for a $25 one (if you guys have them there, 2000 points) because there's lots of tasty sales going on. I might want to do that, anyway, if I have a good way to get in touch with you.

The $9 for 750 makes that deal cheaper per point than anything but the $29.50 and $49.99 purchases, and if you have the $25 cards then that's less (with your discount) than anything but the big $49.99 level.

I'll check on the 25$ card, i saw only a 10$ DDO card but they may label the 25$ card for LOTR online, which i did not look closly at.  More info by meet.  Also to all those waiting for it Delara's 50% of Sunday, if you don't got it, get it, best purchase ever and at 375 points a steal.

That's why I put up the notice about the sale in the other thread. The other reason is that, while it's easy to see the first week of the sale, since the news story is current, the second week and on are always buried.

Hopefully you have them available at Target, I'd not mind getting one from you at the meet on Saturday and trying to get most of the content that I don't have yet if it goes on 50% sale. Monks, extra Races, and Shared Banks will have to wait until they go on sale again later for me, adventures pretty much always come first. I'm going to Favor Grind (le gasp!) for Phiarlan Carnival (goes on sale Sat), one new-server 100 will get me enough, but I'm going to spring for the rest. Bonuses in paychecks rule. Then I can review the final (for now) low-level pack, plus it has Epic content that I can check out once I get there.
