It's no secret that furries have a special fondness for Halloween, and it's not just because of all the tasty candy. We have a lot of fun during the season, and I would like to give everyone another option for enjoying the holiday. The Halloween Capital of the World, Anoka, is having their Grand Day Parade on October 29th and I want to put together a unit to march in the parade.
What I'm looking for from you guys is pretty simple. I want some fursuiters who can walk along, wave, quickly pose for pictures, and in general make people smile. I also want some non-fursuiters who can go with and help me get everyone from point A to point B, in addition to waving at people. It is a themed parade so I recommend that the non-fursuiters wear something such as a tail or ears so it is clear that they belong amongst the fursuiters. If anyone would like to help out behind the scenes, we could use help getting gear transported for people who are dropped off to where they are picked up.
Everyone will have to be at the staging area by 12:30pm and we should all be home in time for supper. The parade is 1.2 miles long and the route is shown by the green arrows on this map. There is going to be a small fee for participating to help cover the $75 cost of registering a parade unit, this cost won't exceed $10. Due to the nature of parade units, I need to know ahead of time who will be participating. Let me know here if you are thinking of participating. There is going to be a signup at the upcoming picnic and we will collect the fee at that time. No additional signups will be accepted after September 10th.

I would like to participate. I have ears and a tail that I could wear. Also, I'm not totally sure about transportation to the picnic. I am trying hard to get there, and am sure, if I got there, that I would be able to pay the fee.
One more question… You say it's on August 29th…? That seems a tad too early for it, and in relation to deadlines for stuff you put in your post. Are you sure it's not in October?

*blinks* Yeah, I'm not sure how I spaced that out. The date is October 29th. Thanks for pointing that out.
As for paying the fee. The picnic is the most convenient time for me to collect it, but I can consider another option if it becomes needed. Let me know if you won't be able to make it to the picnic and I'll see what I can do. (We don't want one person's inability to get to an event to be the reason they can't go to another.)

Bloody hell there's a lot of fursuiting stuff going on about this time. I need to get in gear if I want to finish a new suit! So many things to distract, mustn't let them! Must… be… finished!
Alright, I'd like to toss my name tentatively into the fursuiters pile, I think. With Zoo Boo also going on that day, I'll probably have to make a choice and I won't promise one over the other at the moment.

I live in Anoka and I've always wanted to fursuit for the parade! I used to participate via the Coon Rapids Marching Band, hehe. So I am very familiar with being a part of the parade! I wasn't sure how to go about looking up how to participate on my own, though. All I ever heard from anybody was that it wasn't allowed to just join in. No one ever brought it up that we could register a unit to participate! That's awesome!
I'd definitely join in if enough people got involved to make the price of participating very minimal. I'm not paying $10 just to walk a mile in downtown Anoka. lol!
Also as a warning, this parade gets a HUGE turnout. Parking and traveling into downtown Anoka will be a BIG problem. Whoever wants to organize this needs to pick a good location for us to meet up well before the parade starts so that we are close enough with our supplies that we're not gonna have any issues. The parade doesn't do a full circle either, it starts on the west side of the Rum River near the intersection of State Ave and Main Street and ends down 5th St by Fred Moore School. (At least this is the route I am familiar with, it could be different this year!) Edit: Oops, silly me! I didn't see you posted a picture of the parade route already! But yeah I just want to stress getting around will be problematic and getting fursuiters back to their totes and supplies could be incredibly tricky!

Yeah, I've been told that this is one of the largest hometown parades in the Midwest. This is the first time I'm getting involved with this parade in particular, so don't be surprised if I ask you a few questions later on about your experiences marching in this parade. Most of the marching I have been involved in was in the St. Paul area.

I didn't get enough commitments for the Halloween parade so we won't be participating in it this year. We may try again another year and there will be other parades coming up, one of which I will be mentioning in a couple months.
Thanks to everyone who expressed interest in participating. If you would still like to do some fursuiting with the group this Halloween, there are still several opportunities for you to look forward to.

I'm trying to get a group together for the 31st to do a little flash mob in downtown… Look at the post I stuck up a few minutes ago.
Thanks! :)
