So, just a question, anyone gonna pick up the new MMO RIFT and want to get a group going? The offical severs are gonna launch on the 24th for anyone who's preordered it, and the rest are gonna open on the first of march. The site for the game is http://www.riftgame.com

*sigh*

i actually have thought about playing…

as an 11 year veteran to evercrack (everquest respectfully)… i lust for a game that can fill the void.. regretfully none have.if out of no other reason that morbid curiousity, i might slide one more game down the counter, and produce more money for likely another small company money-grab in the hopes of finding another something to do in my alone time…i pray for a challenge,

-shakes head-

i have lost all interest in mmos due to my thing with free one a few years ago. to this day, i cant play one for a week, without getting extremly bored and deleting it.

that and i have a thing against pay-to-play.

dont have the income for it

-sniffs and looks around- Anyone else smell burning fur?

I don't play MMORPGs enough to get my "value" out of re-paying for a game every 3 months.  If I did; I'd probably go back to Star Trek Online.  It was a neat game… but only being able to play it once a week at most isn't worth it for me re-buying something every 3 months at the full retail box value.

That being said, I have played some Free to Play MMORPGs.  I have a charachter on DDO, Pirates of the Burning Seas (which is what I currently play when I have a few free minutes) and EQ2 Extended.  Some night I may try Champions online; but again I hardly have the time to really dedicate any amount of time to a particular MMO at this point

you see…

the whole "pay to play" conversation totally depends if the person can truly afford to pay,.. in order to play..

while its inconvienent to obligate yourself to another 15 dollar/month bill.. it can really save you a ton at the same time.

I got lost in "everquest" badly,..i would literally play for like,.. 15 hours / day (and thats on TOP of school). my sleep was sporadic and often took place during my classes 8). on the weekends.. it was a 2 day straight event. (this went on for.. years..

For me, the 15 dollars a month i paid into it literally saved me… god i dont even want to guess how much, when you consider how much it saved me in resteraunt bills, movie bills, bar tabs, casino runs, and/or other clubs of choice.

Alas, i quit everquest when they took the challenge out of it.. like WOW, it turned from a challenge into a time-sync. where the value of ones character was better represented by how much time they spent playing the game as opposed to actual skill doing so. and the thing that annoys the absolute hell out of me about a game like that, is that there is no consequence for your actions.. you could kill yourself in some obscene way and the worst part, would be a slight "debuff" that lasts about 5 mins.. (atleast that seems to be the pattern)

Since then.. there has been no game that comes close to competing,. and my strict image of what an MMO should be, has left me numb to truly enjoying some of the newer games that have joined this seemingly endless parade of WoW clones.

PS.. why does this "Rift" not feature a single fur-race?, i would prefer a wolf character, but i would literally settle for anythign with ears and a tail.. im sure most… of us can agree on that much atleast.

Yeah, servers go live today. I don't really care which one, I'm just gonna go to the one with the lowest population. Whenever someone picks one, just throw it up on the forum.

I played everyquest for 8 years before kicking the habit. I've never found a game that could fill the void left by that game. I play DDO now and I like it because I don't need to spend very much time with the the game to keep up.

Can't stop the posting!

wow,..

well i spent the last 5 hours playing rift straight,. and ill be damned if it isnt exactly what i thought it would be lol. a WoW clone.. everything from the quest's to the corpse retrieval, it runs exactly the same. basically my perception (for those who care or follow this thread only out of curiosity),. is that wow primarily is for approx 12 year olds,. this game. might be for early teenagers. there is slight cursing, and slightly more blood,. the controlsl are slightly stricter (which is refreshing) but the mechanics, are exactly the same.. everything down to the inability to take a consequence for acting like a fool and getting your face owned by some extra-planer critter…

With that said, it isnt without its fun-factor, and i currently intend to play it off and on, the most fascinating thing about it to me is that if this is to be a WOW clone, then i have a chance to start, as one of the elites. (the way that current wow players refuse to let anyone new to the game join their order in lieu of advancement) i could simply grow up with the server population, and reap the rewards as such.. (shrug). to each his own.

-Cencewolf,.. (apparantly a level 10 guardian oriented assassin,.. that uses an axe….)..  .. just sayin'
