OfflineWith the hype of the Picnic behind us I wanted to look forward a couple months all the way into November (yeah yeah skipping AC) and Midwest FurFest. I'm thinking of booking a room @ the Hyatt for the 15th-19th (day before and day after the convention). It would just be myself so will gladly split with 2-3 other people. Sound ideal to anyone? OR has anyone already made similar plans and want to fill out their room instead?

Hey guys, looks like I might have an opening in the room for MFF. The seat is semi-reserved but I was told last night work may not permit his days off. If any individual (I can't squeeze more, sorry) is looking for a room feel free to shoot me a message. Especially let me know if you need travel arrangements too or if you have that part of it handled?

Offline@grumble I'll reply here rather then your other topic..
You mentioned 11pm sleep. Are we talking along the entire weekend or just Thursday evening?
… the following is also good to say for other peoples knowledge…
Please note that none of these times reflect traffic; but I hope to be avoiding it!
The plan right now is to DEPART Thursday the 15th from St. Cloud around 4:00 AM. Which will place me in the Twin Cities around 5:30 AM +/- 30 minutes. That will put us at the hotel around 1:00-2:00 *stops considered*.
The biggest reason for such an early time is I have a major issue with driving in unfamiliar territory at night. I simply won't even chance it.
The plan right now is to RETURN Monday the 19th, if we get on the road by 11:00 I can drop off my Twin City passengers around 6:00-7:00. Return to St. Cloud by 7:30-8:00.
Taking the Denali I can sit 6 people comfortably and their luggage *7 people I suppose if everyone likes each other a lot*.. not looking at this topic I'm counting 5. (Twisted, Bakie, Vanbael, Colleen, Oaose).
*If your from north of st. cloud rather then the twin cities I might be able to talk my folks into letting you crash on a couch Wednesday night. Parking a vehicle won't be an issue that's for sure. *
@grumble.. okay, back to you. I'm guessing that your sleep concerns are for working con? I won't have any crazy parties in my room (zero alcohol, period) but I can't promise any lights-out. I'm not saying no but I know where your coming from. Anything before 12:00 is no promises.
Offlineim not gonna revive my thread from a few months ago but im planning on taking the Amtrak train down and back… Any company is appreciated.. last year I was the only fur riding down on Amtrak.. company would be appreciated for this years ride.
Edit: There is stations in Moorhead, a few cities on the way then St. Cloud then Minneapolis/ St. Paul, so plenty of places to board
Leaves 7:55 Am and arrives in Chicago at 3:55 PM, Leaves Chicago 2:15 and arrives at St. Paul at 10:31 PM (roughly 8 1/2 hours each way)
Im leaving Thursday the 15th from Minneapolis and Departing Chicago on Monday the 19th..
Right now tickets would run about 160 dollars (round trip), parking is FREE at the St. Paul station once your validated, and the trip is fast and each station's stop is only 2-3 minutes each with 2 or 3 15 minute breaks on the way for people to stretch.. Food can be bought from the snack store or you can eat at the Dining Car (averages 10-15 dollars for a meal).
Honestly I take the train cuz its reliable and relaxing and the scenery on the way in November is beautiful.

How do you get from Chicago to the hotel?
to address this: On MFF's website there are directions, you walk a few blocks to the metro line and take it up to the hotel, which is 1 1/2 blocks roughly from the station.. the trip is about an hour or so, but it beats driving in Chicago traffic!
As far as price, yeah the train is a bit pricer than driving with someone else but its more reliable and very unlikely to breakdown or get stuck!
Also bear in mind that with a car you gotta 1) Stop for gas 2) stop for food 3) stop for bathroom breaks, the train has food, bathrooms on board so overall the train is faster even considering the 2-3 minute stops en-route it still can get there much faster than a car.
The other reason I like it is cuz its relaxing and carefree, once your underway you dont have any reason to leave the train and the chairs are more comfy to sleep in than car seats.
I just wanna poke fun at something, and mind you its only teasing
Saying the train is reliable is a bit of a stretch xD For those that I told, they know but for everyone else.
Last month when I tried to come down to the cities on the train on a Friday it was 11 hours late due to a train derailment infront of the train (pure luck). It was stuck in Montana for that duration. Soooo yeah xD ive also seen it frequently 1-2 hours late it was just bad.
But again I tease. Honestly, if I didnt have classes, Id consider it. My family loves the train and we get AAA discounts. I have a hot spot so I can use internet and they have plugs. But Ill be driving with a friend =)

I would take the train if it had desks and power for my "portable" computer, however I looks like I'll be driving a minivan all the way there unless I can find a ride or get others to join me.
in the observation car theres several tables and I believe plugs.. ive seen computers being used in there that looked like they were plugged in….
