Anime Detour, the largest fandom convention in our region, is getting a new feature this year. Please help your very own MNFurs present a positive appearance to our 5000+ anime brothers and sisters who may also be furries without being aware of it.

Why would a furry want to come to Anime Detour?

First – A poolside side room party to do furry events, hang out with friends and talk with new comers.
Second – Panels that talk about anthro creatures in Japenese Culture and anime through art and costuming.
Third – A place to strut not only artwork through the artshow but also furry version of cosplay – fursuit, ears, and tails.
Fourth – A way to build relationships with other fandoms that share common interest with our own.

Sounds like fun? It is! And we hope you will joing MNFurs in going!

If you’re not already registered for the con, do so soon! This is a capped convention – once filled they close registration until 2013! So don’t wait preregistration is just $35 and goes up to $50 after New Years.

Saint Paul Winter Carnival Parade 2012

Last year we had a great turn out for the Saint Paul Winter Carnival parade. Participants and spectators alike smiled and everyone had a great time.

This year MNFurs would like to kick the new year into high gear by entering into the 2012 Saint Paul Winter Carnival parade happening on January 28th, 2012.

Those with full suit, partial suit, ears and tails or no suit at all can all enjoy waving and smiling at the parade watching public.

Everyone that is participating in the parade will need to fill out a form and provide $5.00. If you do not fill out the form or pay the fee you cannot be part of the parade.

Sign up happens at the November 26, 2011 and December 10th at the bi-weekly Perkins meet. If you cannot make this or have additional questions please contact wintercarnival@mnfurs.org.

Two Pendants For Silent Auction At OMFG

Two pendants have been donated to MNFurs as fundraisers for the general fund. Each will be silent auctioned off at registration until Saturday night, October 15th at 9:30PM.

The first pendant commemorates MNFurs first event earlier this year: Snowpocalpse 2011. It was handmade from copper by piercing the design into the sheet, stamped, and forged to its current shape. It is strung on a leather cord. Valued at $25. Bidding will start at $5.

The second pendant has the art from OMFG Party 2011. Again it is handmade by piercing the design into a copper sheet, and then fused to Argentium Silver. It is stamped, forged and brought to a high polish. The jump ring is Sterling Silver and is temporarily hung from a leather cord. Valued at $60. Bidding will start at $15.

The Auctions will conclude during the dance Saturday night on October 15th at 9:30PM. The winner with the highest bid needs to be onsite and make payment to MnFurs. If they are not able to meet the commitment, the person with the second highest bid will be contacted.

OMFG Schedule Released and costume contest

After painstaking efforts to extract a schedule from those in charge we are proud to announce a social schedule for October Minnesota Furry Gathering. You can find it at here.

Also please note we are having a costume contest with two categories, best fursuit and best non-fursuit costume. In both cases we are determining “costume” as “anything beyond what is normally attire.” As such we’ll be looking at what you add to your fursuit to be more important than the fursuit itself!

MNFurs 2011 Fall Picnic – Furs After Dark

This fall picnic the party doesn’t have to end when the sun sets.

Starting at 10PM after the picnic – MNfurs will be switching location to the GPS’ Community Center for a night of dancing, drawing art, mature art show, socializing with old and new friends, and more.

This is an 18 and over event so you must bring your ID because we will be carding at the door.

Sept 9 & Sept 10, 2011 Fall Picnic, “Basking in the Sun”

Summer is almost over and so come join the 100+ of MNFurs members for MNFurs 2011 Fall Picnic – “Basking in the Sun”. This 2 day celebration running September 9^th and 10^th is going to be chock full of fun events for furs of all interests.

We start Friday night indoors for dessert and fun at the Event Horizon from 7PM to 1AM. Bring your after dinner treats and get you Fall 2011 Picnic Badge from the Badge Art contest. For those that still wanted to submit an entry to the art badge contest – time is running out but you still have until Sept 1 to enter, just follow this link for details.

Then Saturday, we have the picnic proper at hidden falls park from 11AM to 10PM. Enjoy a classic MNFurs outdoor cookout full of fun and games with your old and new friends.

The MNFurs Picnic is a potluck and to make sure we don’t have 80 bags of chips please join in the food coordination discussion. For the picnic events planning and discussion read more in the MNFurs Forums.

To top it all off, after the picnic Saturday starting at 10PM we have “MNFurs 2011 Fall Picnic – Furs After Dark” back at the Event Horizon Center. ValleyFair – ValleySCARE Event September 24th

Valley Fair is Minnesota’s great amusement park but they kick it up in autumn when they convert part of the park for the ValleySCARE event. New events and scares are included in the admission with all the big rides are still running but the kiddy town and Waterpark are closed, no big loss. So join MNFurs on September 24th for the first Saturday of ValleySCARE.

We are rallying at loverofbalto apartment parking lot prior to leaving so we can cover up to 2 cars with the season pass so anyone else with a large vehicle would be greatly appreciated. The group intend to leave at 5:45PM and stay till close at Midnight. If you wish to use you own vehicle to arrive or leave at different times just remember the 10$ parking fee on top of the non-discounted $31.99 park entrance fee for arriving after 6PM. If you decide to spend the whole day the park opens at Noon and will cost you, without discounts, $42 plus the price of parking.

If you plan to meet up with the group around 6PM, meet within the front gate between the two shops.

Remember – For safty reasons the park asks us to leave the fursuits and tails at home.

Two Events MNFurs Can Help The Community With

October is a great time of year. The leaves are falling, apples are a dunking, and people are dressing up in costumes. MNFurs major event for this season is October Minnesota Furry Gathering on October 15th, but don’t forget that there are other events going on in the wider community.

MNFurs is looking for participants for two other events during this holiday season.

Como ZooBoo

Como Zoo is having their 25th Anniversary ZooBoo on October 22, 23, 27, 28 & 29.

What is ZooBoo? It’s Como Zoo’s way to provide a safe, friendly, non-scary Halloween event for children of all ages. Every year, for five days, Como Zoo builds a trail full of fantasy lands populated with over 200 costume characters for entertainment and picture taking that draws tens of thousands of kids and parents.

The event helps Como Zoo by raising awareness of the zoo itself, and it’s one of their biggest public fundraiser that helps support the zoo so it can be free throughout the year.

Como Zoo needs volunteer to entertain kids within costume, ensure the safety of the public, and give out prizes to the children. So you don’t need a costume to help out.

We are hoping that members of MNFurs would donate their time to support one of our beloved zoos in Minnesota. Kurst is organize this, and you can find more information in our forum thread.

Anoka Halloween Grand Day Parade

Anoka is the Halloween Capital of the World. Every year they put on a 1.2 mile parade in downtown Anoka at 12:30pm on Saturday October 29th. They are looking for people willing to take part in this event in and out of costumes. So you don’t have to have a costume to be part of this great event.

It costs us $75 to register a group, and we’ll be asking for the participants to help out to defray the cost. Cybergarou is organizing this, and you can find more information at this forum post.

For both of these events we need to get a count of who wants to participate and how they wish to participate. This will help us plan and keep in communication with those interested. It will also inform us on what other resources we need to make both of these events a success.

Halloween is a bewitching time full of fun and mischief. It’s time where the world gets behind their masks to show what real party animals they are.

This year MNFurs is proud to announce the October Minnesota Furry Gathering 2011 happening on October 15th. This furoween dance and party is being held at the Ramada Mall of America promising a night filled with fun.

Announcing Emma Krumbees on August 20th!

The second meet in August, Sat August 20th we will be trying something new. We are going to be holding the meet at Emma Krumbees in Inver Grove Heights.

As with Angenos, this is a one shot event. We are trying a few new locations and seeing how well they work out for us; while Perkins is and likely will be our staple event for some time to come we’re offering this meet as an alternate venue to try something new.

The room we have reserved is bigger then the one we have at Perkins, and can accommodate a meet of our full crew comfortably with modular table arrangements. It is private from the rest of the restaurant and has direct access to an outdoor seating area.

As we get closer to the date we will be providing a menu with what will be available to our group and the specific details including maps.

So keep the date open and hope to see you guys there!
