Anime Detour, the largest fandom convention in our region, is getting a new feature this year. Please help your very own MNFurs present a positive appearance to our 5000+ anime brothers and sisters who may also be furries without being aware of it.

Why would a furry want to come to Anime Detour?

• First – A poolside side room party to do furry events, hang out with friends and talk with new comers.
• Second – Panels that talk about anthro creatures in Japenese Culture and anime through art and costuming.
• Third – A place to strut not only artwork through the artshow but also furry version of cosplay – fursuit, ears, and tails.
• Fourth – A way to build relationships with other fandoms that share common interest with our own.

Sounds like fun? It is! And we hope you will joing MNFurs in going!

If you’re not already registered for the con, do so soon! This is a capped convention – once filled they close registration until 2013! So don’t wait preregistration is just $35 and goes up to $50 after New Years.

Some have asked “Why would I get a room at OMFG?” as it is only a single day event. There are some simple answers:

1. It is a late night event, and if you plan on joining us for the final wee hours at 3am you may find yourself too tired to drive. And driving when drowsy accounts for nearly 18% of all accidents in the road today. We’d hate for you to be in one of them so it’s just easier to get a room and join us for breakfast in the morning!

2. Where are you going to host your room party? Hallways aren’t a good place to host such event as it impeded traffic, and they are plain too noisy. Plus, it’s hard to play Apples to Apples without a table or bed to put the cards on. =) Even harder if you want to show anime or knock back with friends and a good beer in comfort.

3. After Saturday the price goes up. Seriously, we can’t stop the hotel from raising the rate. So if you want to secure that low rate better do it quickly! Need a roommate? There is still time to find one after getting the room at: Room And Rideshare forum.

4. Need a place for a quiet conversation and cool off after a heavy dance set? There you go! You have a nice location to disappear for a while with that person you want to get to know better!

5. Build your own fort….Did you reserve a room with two doubles? Well you can build your own little fort. Call it camp OMFGWhyUDoDat?

We could continue to list fun reasons, but to be serious for a moment the best reason to get a room is it directly helps MNFurs reach magical numbers the hotel set that reduces our cost. And this is critical as we look forward to doing larger multi-day events in the future. As 80% of our cost is the hotel space rental, and anything we can do to help reduce that cost means we can work on providing more at the event as well as help us reduce costs of future such events.

This is a bigger venue than Perkins perfect for the busy Memorial Day weekend meet.

There is a flat $10 fee for this event collected by Angeno’s themselves. This includes a full pizza buffet, salad bar, and most importantly SELF SERVICE DRINKS. Again, if you go you to this event you have to pay.

Where is this grand adventure happening at Trapp Farm Park – yes Trapp Farm Park in Eagan, MN will be the place for adventure this year. It’s a different location than last year so take some time before you go and check out the map on our MNFurs Spring Picnic page to get the best idea to get there.

If it rains there is nothing to worry about – At Trapp Farm Park MNFurs has the full shelter to continue the festivities at. This shelter is bigger than our past picnic location so it will be able to protect everyone from rain or sunshine.

For those of you that have fursuits – put on your best ears and tails because fursuitting is allowed at this spring picnic. Not only that, but this year’s picnic fursuit games will be hosted by Aerak. So get ready to suit up, put adventure in your heart and have some fun!

Food? Glad you mention it this year’s spring picnic food is done pot-luck style. Find more information, get ideas and discuss what to bring use the pot-luck forum post.

When does this all start? People can set sail to Eagan starting at 11AM. Don’t worry about being prompt the event goes on till 10PM. So take your time coming there and don’t worry there is plenty of space for you when you can come.

But why does the fun have to stop at 10PM? It doesn’t this year. Swing on by the Geek Partnership Society’s Geek Community Center at 10PM for MNFurs will have the space to keep the picnic fun. With games, food, and great company this is going to be a fun event that will last till the wee hours of night.

Never been to the Geek Community Center then go to our MNFurs Spring Picnic page and find what will be the best route to take.

But you might be saying to yourself “I don’t have a ride to the picnic” or “I would like to car pool to Geek Community Center” It’s not too late to go to our ride sharing forums and discuss how to get there.

I know too much excitement in one day – but trust me rain or shine just do whatever it takes to go to Trapp Farm Park and Geek Community Center and you will have a furry adventure of this springtime!

After much searching the Twin Cities we have found this year’s new home for the spring picnic. And we do think it’s a place that everyone should enjoy. The Spring picnic will be at Trapp Farm Park in Eagan on May 14th.

Starting after 11AM – MNFurs Spring Picnic at Trapp Farm Park in Eagan will get going bringing old familiar faces and games into a new location, with new people, and new adventures.

However, that’s not all. We are going to be adding something new to the mix this year in addition to the new location. Pretty consistently after every picnic there are more than a few people who really don’t want to stop the fun. Hey. Who are we to argue? So with that in mind when dusk falls and the picnic ends the fun will shift and continue at 10PM over to the Geek Community Center over in Minneapolis where we will continue the fun until 1AM or until people start passing out, whichever comes first. However if you pass out we reserve the right to draw on you and mock you mercilessly. Mwahahaha.

If you are going to Snowpocalypse then check out our Fursuit Photography Event. I (Kurst) asked one of our fine local photographer Mouring if he would be willing to bring his portrait photography gear to Snowpocalypse and take pictures…. After many emails he agreed to bring his blend of photography to our event!

Mouring will be willing to take Solo or a pack with or without a fursuit. Just as long as it’s during the schedule event photography time.

Remember – Fursuit photography at Snowpocalypse starts at 2:30 P.M. and will be done first come/first server so get there early! For more details on time and location please check out the event schedule.
