I’m thinking about setting up a fall photoshoot / romp some time in October, either the weekend of Oct 3/4 or Oct 10/11 (the rest of the month is busy with ZooBoo and Halloween, there may also be a bowling event to schedule around as well)
My original plans may require us to pay for a Special Use Permit. So I’m looking at other locations. Any preferences?
Silverwood Park – St. Anthony
Thompson Park – St. Paul (had photoshoot there last year)
Hansen Park – New Brighton
Central Park – Roseville (had previous events there)For now this is just a thread to gauge interest from both suiters and photographers, I hope to solidify things within the next week or so. If you’re interested in suiting or photographing comment below.
I’m up for any excuse to get out of the house on a weekendI am free BOTH weekends and am willing to be a photographer 🙂 I don’t have any flashes to do a fancy studio style shoot, but I’m pretty darn good with natural light 😀 I’ll watch here to see what happens!Andrew -Â https://atomik.smugmug.com/
This dose sound like a grate timePersonally the first week may be better for me… Well the Saturday. But I know some people are going to be booked on Oct 4th with convention type stuff. I might be out of town the weekend after.
Depending on allergies is if I can go out fall kicks it up for me but not as bad as spring.

Is the 4th the FM post-mortem con staff meeting, what time?
Two more good parks I know of; Springbrook Nature Center and Lock Park.Lock Park: https://picasaweb.google.com/104710826561491059686/October312011?authuser=0&feat=directlink

- Mark TwainThe post Mortem for a lot of people is going to take up a good portion of the Daylight hours. But its on a Sunday… Typically Saturdays are more popular for doing fun events anyways…The 3rd is a non-meet weekend. As of right now, there is nothing else going on except waiting on a date for Bowling…

My two cents: I’d avoid Fursuiting at a Nature Center. Typically they are private institutions with controlled entries, and they don’t want anything that could disrupt the wildlife on premises. IE most of them won’t allow Pets. They may view a giant 6′ tall dog as something that could cause issues with the stress on the wildlife…Doing a Nature walk at a Nature center w/o the suits for general photography would be a lot of fun… but for a Fursuit activity its typically recommended to use Public parks.

This adds on to what Kurst said as the 4th is a post-mortem for staff so many will be unavailable for a good chunk of the day. Sunday evenings can be tough too, but not saying it isn’t an option.
I would aim for a Saturday on one of those weekends as I am looking at trying to organize fursuit bowling on a Friday evening.

I agree with Yarrick here as a general gathering would be awesome (with ears and tails). Gives people a chance to socialize, take photos, etc.
fursuit activities (or romps), as Yarrick stated above, should be in a public setting. coming from experience, if you find a public park you want to try, be sure to communicate with any park staff to at least let them know what is going on.

Yarrick/Drake – I’m definately staying away from Nature centers as many may have there own events scheduled. I’ll also be at the staff meeting on the 4th so that date is out.Right now I’m about 90% towards Long Lake Park on the 10th around 2pm but I may do the other if the group is smaller. I’ll get in touch with the park / police and get the official ok, probably early/mid next week once I have a better idea of how many want to participate.
Drake, do you have any standard letter/email that you use for informing parks/authorities?

No, I do not have any formal structure that I use. Just be kind and informative and when you talk about fursuits, always use the term costume performing…The term fursuit will be foreign and may be intimidating to whatever park staff you talk to. If you want me to proof read anything, just let me know!

Given how they wired the place up for Halloween (and the cleanup the following days) I don’t think they’re too concerned lol. But I understand. I’m usually only there for walks and/or photography myself."The problem is not that there are too many idiots in the world, the problem is the distribution of lightning."
- Mark TwainSounds fun!Would love to go and will be taking pictures if I do go, just need a date and time to see if I’ll be able to make it.Never be average...- myself
