MNFurs in the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Parade 2014

Hey all,

Who all will join us for dinner at Famous Dave’s ?  They asked for a rough headcount, since it’s a Saturday night and they’ll be busy.

We also talked about a Prix Fixe menu…  Basically, a set menu called “sandwiches and more” which includes a buffet style table where you choose:

1.  Pulled pork or beef brisket (to make a sandwich)

2.  ribs or roasted chicken (2 ribs or a helpin’ o’ chicken)

3.  2 sides & muffin  (I suggest BBQ Beans, and slightly spicy jalapeno Mac&Cheese but we can collaborate on this later)

4.  non-alcoholic drink with refills

The total cost including tax and tip is $16.00 per person.   This would be the easiest and fastest.  If everyone wants to order regular menu items individually, that is also fine, but since it’s Saturday night, they just wanted to say it might be busy and the kitchen might be a little slow.  If you’ve ever eaten there before, you know that “normal” speed for them is as fast as Jimmy Johns, so “slow” for them is probably about equivalent to “a little slow” for most restaurants…  Plus with everyone jabbering, I don’t think it will be too much of a problem.

So… what do you guys think?  Set menu or individual ordering?

Me and Shadow will be doing Rain Forest cafe when we get done with the carnival (providing i can find parking)  as I haven’t been there in ages and we have been to Famous Daves recently, plus I need to be at Rain forest at least once a year to keep my membership current.  Hope I will be home before the nasty snowstorm plows into the Mall on Saturday, supposedly it is to arrive around 7pm according to the TV today.

I lean toward individual ordering; aside from the wait, I think that will be easier (and cheaper) for everyone.

Final Info

Howdy! Just a recap of everything we’ve covered in this thread, so you don’t have to search through multiple pages:

PRE-PARADE

• We will start staging at noon at the St. Paul Board of Education building on 360 South Colborne St in Saint Paul. I will include more specific details as they become available.
• Parking is a free-for-all, so anywhere you can (legally) find in the area is fair game. Carpooling is strongly recommended.
• Be suited up and ready to go by 1:45. Please plan your arrival (including parking) accordingly.
• I will have extra waivers on hand for anyone who has not yet turned one in or is not accounted for. These are required for participation, and if you are under 18 yours must be signed by a guardian.
• Our official parade space is 93. Please go there as soon as you’re finished getting ready OR if you can’t find anyone elsewhere.

DURING THE PARADE

• Prepare for the weather! The current forecast calls for wind and single-digit temperatures.
• Prepare to walk! Expect to be traveling at least 1.5 miles and to be on your feet for a couple hours.
• We will need at least two people to carry the MNFurs banner. Drake has volunteered; the other position is still open.
• We need everyone to be excited and enthusiastic so we can put our best paws forward.
• If you find that you don’t think you’ll be warm enough or up to walking, there is absolutely no shame in excusing yourself. Please use your best judgment.

POST-PARADE

• Tek, Lonewolf, and possibly Yarrick will be helping to shuttle us back to the staging area.
• We have a 6:30 reservation at Famous Dave’s at the Mall of America. All members are welcome, not just parade participants. Please send a note to Tek or me if you’re interested so there is a rough headcount.

On an off topic note…

Are you a morning person?  Do you like coffee?  You are in luck, Norm and myself will be hanging out at the Madhatter’s Coffee Cafe & Teahouse tomorrow at 10:30.  Come and join us if you are in the area prior and want to socialize with the good stuff that wakes us all up.  It is close to the Board of Education building.  =)

From what I have seen parking-wise, it appears to be street parking…Still trying to call them to confirm if they have a small private parking area.
