    Check out “GearTies” – they are a rubber coated, sealed at both ends with a cap that won’t poke through fur, large diameter soft metal “twist tie” available  in multiple lengths at the local Home Depot for a few bucks.

    They are waterproof so will neither corrode nor leach that corrosion into the tail stuffing or stain the fur if the tail gets wet or is washed.

    And they can be easily reshaped into any particular curve you want.
