Winter Party

Hello everyone! Zen Fox here with a notion for something fun. This is not an official event per se, but want to party. I’ve noticed that there has not been much in the way of events planned lately. As a result I came up with the idea of renting a space from a local restaraunt / theatre location for a Winter party! It would be at a place called Outtakes (link and address provided below) and trying to see about having it either at the end of this month or beginning of April, interest pending. It’s a restaraunt with an excellent menu, bar, pool tables and even some theatre spaces. I actually eat here regularly and passed the idea on to Drake. We ended up heading over this past Saturday, along with a few other regular meet goers, to check it out. The food was great of course, and Drake and I went to get information about reserving a space.

Now due to cost to rent, it would likely will be on a Wednesday and I would be taking care of that part. Would try for a weekend, but that comes to a grand or more a night. This would also keep from interfering with the normal meet and anything that may occur add well. Trying to plan this so that everyone coming wouldn’t have to worry about that. I’d rather people have money for food and drinks instead. Also not planning this as a potluck as there is a menu available with very reasonable pricing.

Now this will be a fursuit friendly event and all would be encouraged to bring one if you can, as well as ears, tails, etc. if you like. Tek is willing to do a photo set up like usual with back drop and props. We all know how much we enjoy Picture time! Drake also got in touch with Fenris and Wulf Siege to see if they would be interested. Turns out they like the notion of helping with doing dj and sound, will get more details on that soon as well. If possible, also loving the notion of setting up some fursuit games. With the way seating is arranged, This could even make for some arena style viewing. I’m also pen to suggestions for that add well, pending the size of the space we get.

Now as far as theatre size- that depends on interest. The smallest they have is for up to 60 people. If there are enough people, I will see about getting a larger space which can be up to 120 or 150, depending on which one. Some even have a stage area as well. To help give a general idea of the when, it would be either for March 26 or April 2 (so still some time to plan it out) with a two week advance to rent the place. It will also be in the evening, so say starting at 5pm (for set up, mainly) until likely midnight or so, though feel free to come and go as you please. This would also give a nice mid-week break in the work week which is nice.

TL;DR

Outtakes is a restaurant with a full bar and a theater to the right that is dinner-style with a full menu of food.

The restaurant has great food and is big enough to hold a dinner gathering.

The theater has 2-3 theaters and can fit a variety of people.  One has a projector and we are allowed to bring in our own equipment and fursuits.

This will be a fun venue to test if we get interest for it.

Below is my more detailed analysis, thoughts, etc…

MY ANALYSIS

When going to Outtakes for the first time this past Saturday, I was impressed by the variety of options provided.  Aside from the restaurant/bar setup on one side, you have a dinner-style theater to the right offering a decent variety of movies (Frozen has been a big hit there).

The restaurant/bar setup is nice with a small wall barrier separating it out.  The restaurant side is booth-style by the area where the wall barrier is and against the wall area.  In between are round tables with nice chairs.  On the bar side there is bar stools surrounding the circular bar area and booths along that wall.

As Zen stated above, there is a pool table area and live music is performed on occasion.  We got the pleasure of hearing some music this past Saturday…I do find it to be a tad loud at times, but that’s what you get with live music.  Since the bar area is next to the restaurant area, I would suggest that anyone under the age of 21 at least be accompanied by someone of age…

On the theater side, it looked a bit small going in hallway-wise.  Upon finding the manager and looking at two of the theater rooms, they are spacious and offers plenty of room to hold an event.  As Zen stated above, one fits a smaller amount of people while the other a much larger amount.  The one that can fit a large amount of people has a ceiling digital projector and a front stage.  This would be a nice area to setup something like DJ’ing, fursuit games, etc.

MY THOUGHTS

After seeing these theater rooms, we spoke with the manager for a bit.  We have been given the green light on bringing in our own audio/video equipment, movies (if projector is used), and fursuits after explaining costume performing.

The costs to rent out a space is expensive on the weekends as Zen stated above…Weeknights are much more cheap and something we can swing.  If I remember correctly, it was a grand or more on weekends and about $200-ish on a weeknight.

The obvious downside is it being on a weeknight…It is understandable that weeknights will be tough for many.  I am not sure what their pricing is on a Friday evening, but that is another possibility so that it is not earlier in a given week.

On a plus side, Outtakes is central metro and is easy to get to if coming off 169 (north/south).  This way, if people want to come out, they can stay for a couple of hours and then take off at their own convenience.

On another positive, we are given the green light on our own equipment, fursuits, and we can fit a lot of attendees.

On an end note, I think this will be a fun venue to hold an event.  If enough interest is garnered, it will be a nice test run.

Well put! And Fridays count as the weekend, staring at a grand for that night. In some cases they are willing to reduce cost but it’s still a lot of money. I am hoping we can hey enough interest to utilize the larger size theatre, though. :3

That’s what I thought as Fridays as part of weekend costs and that’s fine.  Will just have to look at earlier in the week then.

Sounds like a fun time, but I work 8 to 6:30 pm Wednesday through Friday… Might give me 3 hours at max between the drive and having to go home for work the next morning. Not really worth it sadly.
