Fursuit Romp at Mill Ruins Park – March 30th, 2013

The Basics

The Details
We’ll be waiting for everyone at the Riverfront Municipal Parking Ramp – Map (across from the Guthrie), which should provide a sheltered area where we can suit up without being far from our vehicles. According to their website, parking for a couple hours will cost $6. Look for us on the 4th level near the southern stairs/elevator. It’s the corner of the building on 9th Ave closest to Washington Ave, right next to the entrance/exit.

An updated note on the weather! Light rain is expected tomorrow, hopefully tapering off during the afternoon. Personally, if that’s accurate I think we’ll survive, but take that into consideration when preparing. Fursuits with rain slickers and/or umbrellas = probably still pretty funny. If you are nervous about your suit and moisture, you’re welcome to bring it along and join us as handler instead if you think it will be too wet. If it turns into real rain, well, we’ll see. Any cancelation notes will be posted here first.

Is surprise fursuiting in a public space okay? I personally believe it is a matter of professionalism that makes the difference between bad public image of furries, and an awesome and magical experience. Let’s say as an example you are fursuiting at a park (I know some great local parks for this, btw), and you are acting very professionally – (yes, profession furry – I know how rediculous this sounds). Let’s say you are in character the entire time, stay away from people who are obviously weirded out, and have a crew of well dressed handlers to act as your PR spokesmans. It can go extremely well. In other words it’s “guerrilla” but it’s also reasonably well planned on your end.

We’re obviously doing this because it’s something we enjoy, but it’s important that we present ourselves in a professional and friendly light. Anything less does no good for us personally, for MNFurs as a group, or for the fandom as a whole.
