Ok.So.Me and my buddy The Real Husky came up with the idea of a furmeet that takes place in Duluth Minnesota called Lake Superifur. If we were to host it, who would come? Our goal is at least 20 people.I know it seems small but we literally just came up with the idea the other day. MODIFICATION!!!!!!: So thanks to Drake and Ridayah, i have decided that the GoFundMe amount has been cancelled for this year.I have now seen that i don’t need $2k for a get together.I may have overthought everything. So i apologize for that.If you couldnt tell already i do before i think.I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed.So big thanks to Drake and Ridayah for the ideas and suggestions.

I forgot to put this in the post.

If you would like to help us reach our goal of $2,000 on our GoFundMe page, here is the link!

And if you could share it with friends that would be greatly appreciated 🙂

It’s neat to see someone have a desire to work on events in Duluth! Kudos to you and good luck 🙂

Though I have you ask – you mention you’ve already made t-shirts. Did you have pricing on those, sizes, so on? And $2,000 seems a rather large amount of money to raise, even for a whole weekend event, and it sounds like this would just be one day. What kind of costs are you seeing that require that? I’ve run several successful events with MNFurs in the past that have had attendance over that for less than $50, and many of them free both in running cost and to attendees. At $2000 for 20 people that’d be over $100 per person! Would you be able to provide more information on specifics of this?

I’d be down to go, but also agree with the comments directly above mine–how could an event in Duluth run you $2000 for 20 people? There are loads of places around town that could host something like this for free, only cost really being food if you wanted to provide that for everyone.

Chester Bowl has free to use grills, even, for hot dogs and burgers.

Edit to add: Hot dogs are $0.50 each in 8 packs from the grocery store, and ground beef/pork is about $4/pound and makes 4-6 burgers per pound. For a lunch, I’d guess 2 hot dogs per person, or 1 burger. Could probably get by with everyone chipping in $2 for food, or bringing something to contribute (chips, soda, etc).

I was gonna try to get some equipment as well. Like mircrophones to announce events and stuff. And speakers.Which are a wee bit expensive. And i’m already talking to Drake about everything. But if you do have any ideas i wouldn’t mind hearing em.

Trust me, you do NOT need that kind of stuff. 😛 I’ve helped run over a dozen of the MNFurs picnics, and with numbers toppign 300+, we’ve never needed microphones/speakers to be heard. Stuff like that’s Overkill with a capital O! And it’s also way easier to ask if a friend has them (oftentimes, someone does and would be happy to bring), but if you’re only expecting 20 people or so at first, a bluetooth speaker and a cell phone are more than enough, or just raising your voice a bit for an announcement work.

I’d be curious to see what kind of equipment you think you need and such – Drake’s an awesome contact for helping with events, and I would be happy to lend an ear and my expertise as well! Cause for what you’re looking at, I bet you can pull it off for out of pocket costs of ~$30, tops.

Well if i can get people to help out and bring stuff then yeah i can cancle the GFM thing.I just figured i might need equipment.Did not think about other people bringing it.I do before i think if you couldn’t tell already. But i mean come on, it’s my first event.

Yeah, trust me, you really don’t need it. My honest suggestion? Find a park or restaurant to hang at (and with as few people as you got, especially if it’s a park, no reservation needed), bring a bluetooth speaker and an ipod or phone for some music if you want, and tell people to bring something to eat. Costs nothing, is super simple, and lets you ‘gauge’ the interest. Make bigger plans after you’ve run 2-3 smaller things, especially if it’s your first time!

Don’t worry, we all get caught up sometimes with an event. But that’s what this community is awesome at, stepping in and helping out where it’s needed and helping mellow us if we start overthinking something. 🙂

I just thought that there would be so little people because there isn’t a lot of duluth furs that i know of in the duluth/superior area.Sooooo.Yeah.I kind of underestimated.Oops .-.

Phantom, I sent you another e-mail in response to your previous one.

Ridayah brings up the best point here…We need to start much smaller, gauge interest, and slowly grow your network from there.

I am always available as a resource as you still continue to do your planning.  🙂

    Thanks Phantom!

Heck yeah! I had a similar idea, I was thinking maybe adventure zone, or the incline station would be good places, somewhere around canal park at least. Though I don’t think you’ll need too much stuff, people can just show up and pay for their own things too, unless it was like a potluck.
