Hello everyone on behalf of the Minnesota Furs we would like to give you an update on recent events at our organization. Fall was a busy time so here is our summary:
-Elections-
As a reminder Minnesota Furs Board of Directors Elections are coming up at the beginning of next year. Expect to hear more in January as the timeline and start of election season is kicked off. Two seats will be up for the 2020 election. There will be a nomination period, followed by a chance for the community to learn more about the candidates that accept and their ideas, followed by a voting period. Voting is done absentee or in-person and can be completed by anyone that has completed 20 volunteer hours at Minnesota Furs, Furry Migration, or any of our events. -Volunteering-
Speaking of Volunteering, we have more volunteering opportunities available. Perfect for if you want to get a few extra hours to get voting rights or just to help out! Some of our upcoming opportunities to get hours are:
* MNFurs Oval Meets
* MNFurs Events Department Staffer – Want to help out in supervising, planning, or administering our events? Our Events department is always looking for help in supervising new events, booking locations, and/or vetting suggestions. contact: events@mnfurs.org
* MNFurs Holiday Party – Coming up in January we have our annual Holiday Party at the Oval. Help setup and teardown, keep the food area clean, and assist in crowd control. Want to help out, contact: events@mnfurs.org
* WereCamp – our annual winter camping event is coming up in January. Check them out at werecamp.org and hours volunteering at WereCamp count towards MNFurs hours!
-Board of Directors Updates-
One of our Directors, Kizith, stepped down and in October the Board appointed Euro Goldeneye to fill the seat since the seat is up in the next election just a few months away. Euro is currently the Secretary of MNFurs, already had voting rights, and it allowed the board to fill the seat without having to appoint someone who would have to go immediately to running for election. Several potential candidates did come up during this deliberation and our organization’s President reached out to them suggesting they may consider running for this seat in the next election.
The other major bit of board new is that Furry Migration has submitted its accepted candidates for the 2020 ConChair. As a refresher FurryMigration is the annual furry con chartered by MNFurs and that charter provides that the organization’s staff and leadership provides candidates to the board for appointment. We had our conchair step down shortly after the convention triggering a new search committee to be formed. For more information on this see the letter from the 2019 conchair Kurst. In our November meeting we heard back from the convention’s ConChair Search Committee, received the three final candidates that accepted their nomination from the con, and began the interview process. It is the hope of the Board of Directors to have completed this selection for an announcement in December. The convention staff will of course be notified first and their input has been, and still is, and important part of this process.
