As many of our community are aware, we are entering unusual times. Organizations and communities have been asked to take steps to mitigate the spread and prepare for the impact of the novel Coronavirus. Today, the governor of the State of Minnesota declared a peacetime state of emergency in order to allow for a more comprehensive and consistent response in our state. It has always been the position of our organization to take our cues from local authorities when it comes to matters of health and safety.
With the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and the increased concern communicated by the State of Minnesota, it is unfortunate that we have to announce that all Minnesota Furs events and gatherings will be canceled for the foreseeable future. A major portion of the State of Minnesota request has focused on social distancing, and since many of our events are smaller, more intimate gatherings, it is difficult for us to to place our community in situations where this guidance is impractical or impossible.
The Events Team and Board of Directors will regularly be reviewing the situation, but we will be unable to have our planned events from now until at least Mar 31. For some activities, we will be making attempts to have them take place online or defer them later to a new date. At this time we do not believe that the Spring Picnic will be impacted by these events. We know that Minnesota Furs and our amazing community help many of our members cope with the realities of life as a safe space to get away. It is our commitment to try and minimize this impact and restore all normal events and activities as soon as we can, and we will update you as soon as possible.
We ask everyone to support those events and conventions outside of MNFurs that are most impacted by Coronavirus. Your well wishes and word of support during their toughest challenge will be appreciated. Stay safe, everyone, and we look forward to seeing each and every one of you once this disruption has passed.
