So I just had an idea for a fursuit that I’m not sure would work and would like some feedback. So I’m contemplating being a shark kind of person and I’m wondering if it was possible to make a suit that you would actually be able to swim in. But also be able to walk around and stuff. I definitely don’t have the funds or design for something like this right now but would it be possible?Eeep! I don’t think most fursuit makers would have the skill set to pull it off. Plus there are some liability issues and the maker would have to be okay taking on that responsibility.
You would need to go with some sort of non-fur material. If you went with short faux fur, it would end up gaining a ton of water-weight and would be pretty dangerous. Plus in a pool you’d have to worry about fur in the pool filter, and the effects of chlorine on the suit. You could look into vinyl or latex. If you wanted something realistic I think you’d want to go to a special effects studio.
Anyway. Your question was, would it be possible? Yes but you need a very specialized maker. Most full body fursuits are between $1,000 – $4,000 depending on style and expertise. This suit would cost more than that. But if you are willing to do some online research and don’t mind spending the extra money, it’s definitely possible.
Yeah I was thinking about it after the fact and it seems to kind of defeat the point anyways. I’ll rethink the whole swimming thing. I’d still wanna do the shark thing though.Would a Shark partial just be like some arm fins or something? And do Sharks even have fur? Or is that not a thing to worry about.Dumb question I know Sharks don’t have fur it was just me worrying that that wouldn’t fit the furry standards.Meh not standards just like something I guess. “Sigh” I don’t really know what I’m doing.reptiles don’t have fur either but fursuits are still made. look at this cutie!
the only thing I would think that could be for swimming would be a latex suit with goggles like this:

not very helpful for a fursuit đ
Here is an idea local to Minneapolis.http://www.startribune.com/mere-mortals-become-mermaids-thanks-to-twin-cities-sisters/267383121/

These sisters do mermaid tails that you can swim in for $2500. One can actually swim in them, but walking, not so much. They may have information for you however.
This is their website https://www.finfolkproductions.com/
Hope something is helpful here.

@Sam D I agree that is really cute.I’m off the swimming idea it was just a thought I had and now that I’ve thought about it I would not want it.
But now I’m wondering do people usually design their own fursuits or have someone do it for them? And I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on designing. -
