Community Fourm Meeting 12-7-13 3 PM

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving weekend. With that behind us its now time to focus on the fast approaching community meeting this Sat. This is where we invite our members to share their input and become involved with upcoming events and communicate with the Minnesota Furs Board of Directors and other department staff.

First off the major change is that the time for the December meeting has been moved to 3pm. This is due to the fact that the community meeting would otherwise fall in the middle of the bi-weekly meet. The Venue is the same as the Bi-weekly Perkins with the meet following directly after. So if you have the time, stop by early and listen in or make your input heard, we’d love to hear it from you!

Called to order 3:32pm.

FM consuite/table. Kellic – It worked. Two parts, the Furry Migration table and helping with consuite tasks. Thanks to Grumble for bringing up the table staging supplies. I did not snap any pictures of the table and would like some so if you have any please email to [email protected] I’ve noticed the con has more traction, hearing it discussed more and more. We’re selling shirts, buy one!

Holiday Party. Drake – At least 80 in attendance. Raised over $100, which was more than room cost of around $66. Gift exchange went well. Huge success Kellic – suggestion, next time see if we can catch room 106A to make that the photoshoot area. Kurst – also let’s make sure we don’t over saturate and have photoshoots at all these sorts of events. They start to lose their specialness.

Anime Detour Room Party. Flip – there is clear push from furs and anime detour people that they want us back. Andy Freeman has the idea for a themed cafe of Polar Bear Cafe. Need handlers and suiters.

Tuttles bowling. Ringer – great turnout. Rented 4 lanes and bumped it up to 6 during. That place is not willing to reserve for a whole as they’ve hit their busy season now that snow is on the ground. Drake – if you’d like I expect we could set up an event in January with the Ramsey alley we’ve been to before.

Tree of Hope (PetCo) fundraiser. Unico – Doing another set of these fundraisers. Requesting fur suiters and handlers to come out to bring attention and interact with interested customers. A couple have signed up for tomorrow and there is more interest two two Saturdays the week after. There’s a post not he forums with info and RSVP.

Events. Drake – nothing major coming up. As always feel welcome to message us if you have interest in hosting an event. Aerak. – We do have event insurance now.

Volunteers. Zepaw – Kelsier will be leaving Dec 30, I expect to step back a couple days later. I’ve been the head of MNfurs and Furry Migration’s volunteer dept to get them off the ground(Kellic: and thank you for that *hugs Zepaw*) with the understanding I would step back from one. I wish to stick with the development of FM so I will hand off my responsibilities with MNFurs. Streaks will be the only one left. It’s not finalized but it is expected he will be handed control of the department. If you believe you should be considered let me know and I will pass your interest on to the board. There will be an assistant dept head needed as well so feel welcome to share your interest in that position.

Online chat moderator for Community Forum. Aerak – Kelsier has been heading this up but as noted before she will be gone soon. Looking for someone interested in being the point person. Yarrick – is that person relieving extra volunteer time on top of the hour for attending the meeting? Aerak – the board is taking different tasks and the time they earn under consideration. Will have an update next meeting. (No recommendation or decision made)

Web/IT – Continuing to refine the site. There are particular features people want returned or enhanced. Hitting some priority points like that first.

BoD update – next meeting is this Monday so not a lot to update this time. Kurst – the insurance is just now being established. It’s event insurance and we must make them aware of events to ensure coverage. Kellic – this is the sort of thing where donations are going. Without member donations we couldn’t have this or even do some of our events. Applies to any official mnfurs “blessed” event. Kurst – There is a significant deductible so it’s more of “disaster” insurance. Still filing so not sure if it’ll end up as 501c3 or c7 (looking to 3). 3 is a charitable organization, helping the community. A lot of cons look to that. Us doing things like PetCo fits that bill. 7 is a more enclosed member focused group. To attend events or be involved you need to be a member. Looking to have that filed around end of Dec. Kellic – Do they do reviews of your status? Kurst – They have that capability but it’s uncommon unless given notice/reason to suspect. The board meets one a month. Reviews the legal and makes sure things are chugging along. Almost all community discussion happens here, influencing the direction of that is not our prerogative.

CommForum meet location – Yarrick. There have been several discussions but no firm movements made. Kellic – I like having it here. Yarrick – one idea was to have a rotation of a few. Variety is a good thing as it gives us all a chance to branch out. (no decisions made).

Amy the Store Manager popped in. Let us know she was glad for our business and if we have any concerns her or the assistant managers Jason (or Jacob?) and Adam are there to help.

Next meeting runner – No one steps up immediately so Kellic and Drake offer. As they have done the last two Zepaw offers. Zepaw moderating meeting Tuesday January 7 7pm location TBD.
