Shocking news out of today’s earnings report at Disney that they are closing down their self publishing console games division, which has published many games over the years based on Disney property’s. They will still license out games to others like EA and Square Enix, but there were many gems in the games they made on their own. Older games I have played like DuckTales, Jungle Book, Lion King and Toy Story come to mind right away. Newer games they had made include Disney Infinity (which is ending production in June), and Epic Mickey.

Disney has this on again off again with self publishing titles. I’m really sadden about Disney Infinity because it can be a fun toy/distraction to have. I just hope enough of the game/servers are up to keep it going. The only thing that is “ok” is they have done a lot of good job licensing games see Duck Tales, Lion King, Aladdin, Tron 2.0, etc.
Again sad to see the studio and those people lose their jobs. Well gives me more hope of a strong Kingdom Hearts now that Disney Interactive isn’t making games….
