Hello all!
First off, I would like to put a huge thank you to everyone who came and attended the Machine Shed Alternate meet. We met what we needed for food ordering so the room became free for us!
We had 40-50 people attend which for the first time we’ve tried something at this venue was a very good showing. For those who were at the Machine shed: How did you like the Venue? The Food? The location? The Gift Shop? Any other comments or concerns (IE that they closed early, etc)
Secondly we did get some flak for doing this meet here. For some, this made their commute shorter, others it made it longer. Those who had a longer commute became frustrated. But no Venue we’ve had in the Twin Cities has been Central. For a lot of people, since Perkins is so far West its quite a commute for us.
We’ve done years of research looking for Alternate meet places, and at first we were trying to only look for alternates that were Centrally located. Unfortunately most Inner City/loop places either are very small, have no free parking (IE Meters and Parking ramps) want a massive fee to rent their room (because they can-they are very busy and can ask for a large rental fee and get it) or are too busy to allow us to have the room for the amount of time we need it for.
Places like the Minnetonka Perkins and Lake Elmo Machine Shed which are on the outside of the 494 loop have been a lot more accommodating to us. Many of these places see spikes of traffic during the week but are available for the Weekends with proper notice – as the restaurant itself is not overly packed.
We plan on keeping Perkins as our base camp. We will continue to hold most of our meets here. But we also realize there are people around the twin cities where Perkins is not the most convenient for.
For our next alternate meet we want to do something in either the North Metro (Brookyln Park, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Arden Hills, New Brighton etc) or South Metro (Eagan, Bloomington, Inver Grove Heights, Apple Valley, Shakopee, etc). These are both areas we haven’t held a meet in for a long time, with the exception of our picnics.
The events team is going to be scouting both the North and South metro for possible locations – but if you have a suggestion and know of a place that can hold a large group of atleast 50 people with no or no with condition, rental fee: chime in here.

The space in that room and the piles of food were huge points for this location. The tables were big compared to Perkins, and much more ideal for large pockets of socializing and for gaming too. The price was fair considering the amount of food you received, however still a good deal more expensive than Perkins and slightly more than Applebees. Negatives for me would have to be the closing time and the fact that the room lighting was very dim.It was fun!
