My first Fursuit Head

I’ve been trying to make a head for about a month now… first I was working on making one that looked like Fox McCloud from Starfox

But as I was working on it I kind of wanted to do my own thing, especially after seeing what everyone here has created. (And the fact my fox was looking more like a duck.)

I am not very proficient at drawing so I asked in the chat if anyone would draw me something up. Ringer responded, and so I told him my idea, sent him a reference and he delivered!

Now that I have the pic, I started browsing the internet to figure out how I was even gonna try to do this.

I started with the ears actually, just to see if I could get the 1″ foam I had to do my bidding.  After that worked I started in on the rest with a simple design for the base.

And it sat that way for a while. I had no idea where to go from there, I had never actually seen a fursuit up close so I had no idea the scale or placement of all the parts.

Then I went bowling, and really got to get a good look at some heads.

They were all great! After I got home from bowling I had four hours to kill before I had to sleep, so with my new inspiration I started working again.

I was trying to go with a movable jaw, I just couldn’t get it to move the way I wanted so I scrapped that and went to a fixed one. I believe I bit off more than I could chew with that. (lame pun intended) Also I started to make the eyes.

As of this moment i’m waiting on deicing the fur to get… I’ve checked fabric stores in the area and can’t really find what i’m looking for and online is iffy for me to buy it unless I have enough $ to get all the fur I’d ever need, lol.

Here is the update so far.

I am still waiting on the fur, but in the mean time i’ve masked the head off and sculpted the nose!

also i now have an endgame in mind. it’s gonna be either that or a partial suit and i’m gonna make him a bit more punk… ring in the ear and nose, orange “hair” sleeveless ozzy or ac/dc shirt, something like that, lol

So,

I suppose it’s time for another update for those who I don’t catch in chat!

I managed to go buy all the fur I’m gonna need to finish the suit from http://www.srharrisfabric.com/ Only the actual physical store (that was a task and a half) if it wasn’t for Snap E. Tiger, Ringer and Mouring I would have went home empty handed (too many people+social anxiety coupled with an overwhelming amount of fur and lac of experience) But i got it and now i’ve started to get some progress.. as of tonight i have everything cut and ready to sew!

And so begins the pics (sorry if they blow up the page)

I hope to finish sewing by wednesday but I’m sure that won’t happen, lol. I also need to fix the eyes a bit because they look a bit durpy… Oh, and the rest of the suit. I still hope to get at least a partial by the holiday party (finished head, tail and paws).

Just been about a month and I suppose I should update, so first and foremost! Norm is  a partial suit! 

I found a template for his paws at matrices.net and they turned out!  

 

I am currently working on the footpaws, then when thats done i will trey to get the rest of the house stuff done, lol

Also, while i was bored i managed to record these! The first is fulsom prison blues, with a bit of a punk taste, and the second is just freestyle.

 

I have a couple more song I want to cover, but I am always up for suggestions.  Inspiration can spark from anything!
