how would some one like to make me a partial for $150I am not sure how much luck you will get offering such a small amount. A partial fursuit still requires 2-3 yards of fur. Fur from a fabric store isn’t high enough quality to make a good fursuit. Most fursuit makers order only from a webiste like http://www.distinctivefabric.com/ and the fur will typically cost between $20-$30 per yard.
So right there we have between $60-$90 of expenses. The high density foam needed for the head and feet costs somewhere between $50-$100, the eyes are made using plastic, foamies, buckrum or a similar see-through fabric, and waterproof color or acrylic.
The feet start out typically as slippers which is another $10-$20. The bottom of the feet is usually a rubber exercise/yoga mat. A can of Super77 or similar binding agent is used to bind the rubber to the bottom of the slipper.
So far just in expenses we are between $160 – $250. Now we have to consider the amount of hours it takes a fursuit maker to make a suit.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10053857/For something like the suit in the link, the head took 20 hours, the feet, and hands took another 20. So for just a partial, you could expect someone like me to easily put in 40 hours. Even if someone is just doing this for a hobby is isn’t trying to make a living off of it, they are probably going to at least charge something for their time. The absolutely minimum you can probably get a partial for is $300. And that is going to limit the quality quite a bit.
If you are trying to keep the cost down, I would recommend to keep at making them yourself. That’s what my boyfriend and I were forced to do initially and it’s why we are somewhat good at making them. There are plenty of tutorials online and I am sure when furrymigration (www.furrymigration.org) happens this Fall, there will at least be a few panels on fursuit creation.
Good luck! =)
I don’t know if it would help but I also got stuff to trade with the cashMostly all fursuit makers will only take money, nothing else. Mainly because it helps them get their supplies and they also need to buy food and pay bills. That said you need to seriously budget and save more. That amount you posted isn’t going to get you much, you are paying for supplies, and more importantly, time.At this point, the cheapest option for you is what Aerak suggested: a DIY project. And as an added suggestion, invest time and money into it. Time for learning and putting in the details for the head especially, getting critique and tips from others, researching methods. Money for the materials, getting a quality base for the head, quality fur, and other supplies. Its not the easiest route, but it is one to consider.
That’s all I got.
I will say that a DIY fursuit for $150 is doable, but from my own experience, don’t do it. Not without doing a lot of looking around on Youtube.I am currently working on making a mask myself. I got the ordered a mask blank from FursuitSupplies.com. So far for the whole thing I have spent around $170.00. I managed to use some coupons to pretty much get a yard of fabric free. Here are some WIP shots:

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13230254I plan on getting the fur put on by Sunday. This is just a temporary mask until I get my real one next year along with a full suit.
