The title is the basic of what I’m doing, At my school, Avalon Charter School, The seniors have to to a Senior Project, a project that needs at least 300 hours of work. So I am going to be making a fursuit for my project, along with educating my school about Fursuiting.

Sounds like an interesting project, and I hope it goes well for you. There are a couple “pro” fursuit builders in the Cities (that I’m aware of) so hopefully one of them will be able to give you some assistance.

If all else fails, a number of us here have a bit of experience with various aspects of construction and may also be able to help.

    Good luck!

Oops, that’s the thing I forgot to mention… The expert just needs to know more than I do and what to do. They don’t need to be an expert, but if they are, that’d be pretty cool. So I’m looking for someone who could help out when I run into a problem (a brick wall), someone with the answer (or a metaphorical jack hammer!). I don’t need one specific person, so I just told my teacher that I would use the whole community as my expert, and if they don’t want to help, they don’t need to.

Since this is my FIRST time suiting ever, could I also get a few pointers on that? Should I bring my suit and switch into it after arriving, or just go in suit? And what should I do if I get tired of wearing my mask and other attire while there and just want people to know me out of suit?

Personally, I would bring your suit in first and then find a designated area to change (in regards to the bowling event, there is no real changing area except by our reserved lanes).

Quite simply, take your suit off and change back into whatever attire you wore in.

Depending on how easy it is to see in your head through the eyes, be aware of your surroundings.  There have been occasions where I have almost tripped and fallen from tripping over something on the ground or floor.

When you start to feel dehydrated, always remember to have a water source close to you.  For example, I have a water bottle with a long straw.  I am able to stick the straw through the muzzle to reach my mouth.

At most events, a lot of us have our own handler.  A handler will get you hydrated when needed, watch for oncoming people/kids, make you aware of environmental obstacles, etc.

Lastly, one of the toughest things to get down is how you act in suit.  What I mean by this is how you perform when in character.  Our character(s) have their own personality and way of acting.  For example, I am known as the business fox in the community so I walk around with a clipboard and prop pen when in suit and conduct business in a silly manner.  This is something that will take a bit of time to figure out, but I am confident in you.

I do have a video called Fursuiting 101 which was a panel at Cat Days.  If we meet IRL, I will see if I can get this to you on a disc or flash drive.

It will be fun to see what your suit looks like!

Let us know if anything else comes up as there is no such thing as a dumb question   =)

Thank you Drake, it’s helpful to know that. One last question for now, I’m using buckram for the eye’s colors, but I don’t know what to use to color the iris and pupil, What should I use to color them? because the only thing I can think of to use is either Sharpies or Copic markers.

I would not know the answer to this as I do not work on suits.

    Sorry buddy!

So I feel bad and dumb for not updating a thing, but I have the mask foam base done (sorta) and would like any feedback, critiques, anything really before I begin furring.

The character is an albino tiger, and I’m having troubles with accepting the shape of the muzzle… that’s a spot that all feedback will help greatly. The inside of the mouth is a system of rubber bands hidden by a drape, it holds the mouth shut due to when it’s free hanging it’s too heavy and dangles open. A tongue is going to be added and will be hanging out, I’m just waiting to get to the furring process.

    Let’s call you R3n for now, since IDK if you want your real name on forum ^^;

    1) HI I FOUND YOU AND WOW DO I WISH I WAS STILL AT AVALON TO SEE YOUR SENIOR PROJECT v_v

    2) It’s looking really nice so far, I really have no wisdom to bestow upon you (I’m so clueless) however I figure I might as well compliment your current progress ^^

model paints work really well for eyes. Prisma and sharpies work, but be careful around water or damp environments because the colors will run. Buckrum is probably the best fabric to work with for eyes. If you are going for a 3d eye (following eye) effect, the eyes being recessed is not what makes the effect happen, not alone anyway. The secret is the when you are furring and creating the area around the eye, it has to be a smaller diameter than the white of the eye. I am probably doing a terrible job explaining it. If you look at my fursuit head, the eyes are about 1.5″ in diameter. Thats the opening to the recessed area. The actual backing, made of foamies in my case, is larger. Without that, you won’t get a true following eye effect.

Its tough to see what is going on under the foam. Did you decide to make the structure out of plastic canvas or did you start with a balaclava and add foam to it? Keep in mind, while foaming, any definition (detail) you add with the foam will be lessened quite a bit when you add fur.

It looks pretty good so far for being a first attempt. 🙂

Thank you Aerak, And don’t worry , you explained it well enough that I understood it the second time. By the time I read your information, I had already tore everything off to start again, And was able to finish the mask in time for Anime Detour. I wore it to the picnic, White and bright green dog. I will have pictures once I’m home as I’m in school right now and have no access to pictures of it right now… but some changes that can be writen is that the eyes are no longer red, they are now GCN A button teal, and has an A rather than a B. I no longer have followme eyes. I learned how to do a proper moving jaw set-up rather than the rubber band thing I had…  and he now has large pointed ears. And he is now a german shepherd/tiger mix.
