Has anyone else had a issue receving the mnfurs.org email they were promiced for going over the 20 hour voulnteer mark?
The reason I ask is last year after putting up with being voluntold to work for your convention(2015) and racking up 50 hours, and then being threatened by the con chair for restating a very common rumor from last year, I didn’t receive any notice on when or how to apply for the “perk” that came with it. I’ve since heard that several people have had similar issues and I have sent a email to the secretary of MNFurs. Like every other email I’ve sent in that direction, I can only assume that it has been ignored(3+ months and not even a reply) It isn’t my or anyone else’s job to chase y’all all over the internet for the perks that are promised us. It would be like hosting a game show that promises a reward and then not giving it hoping the contestant just forgets and is grateful for the opportunity to have played.
I understand that I’m the bad guy in many circles, but just like anyone else. I didn’t do work for a “volunteer organisation” who promised a form of compensation(a email address), only not to receive same. Please pull your heads out of your “Ingroup” biased mindset and do as you were promised.
Thank you.
In order to obtain a MNFurs email three things are required – 20 volunteer hours, good standing in the community, and to contact [email protected] directly requesting the email address. I just checked, and there is currently no record of you emailing secretary at this time.Going to point out something Ridayah..https://www.mnfurs.org/members/${YOURNAME}/MNFurs/
Speaks nothing about emailing secretary@.
“Hello and welcome to the MNFurs Membership Management Zone! From here you will be able to manage benefits of your membership within MNFurs, including adding and tracking volunteer hours. You may use the menus above to add and review the current status of any submitted volunteer hours for events you have assisted with.”
Clarity of this would be helpful. May I suggest that the organization puts either the full rules or a link to them as that is where people are going to go by default when harassed to put their hours in.
That is not a bad idea, and a good notice. The information is on the Volunteers page here on the website, but I’ll talk with the web team about adding a link or other bit there about email requirements.I may be out of place, and possibly line in this thread, but reading Ridayah first comment. the second qualification “good standing in the community” is more then vage and to me could use more definition. More so since Cypher stated that that he feels disliked “I understand that I’m the bad guy in many circles”I agree with LegoFox. It maybe there are those in the community who have taken issue with Cypher, but unless here is some kind of quantifiable list of things that cause a person to not be in “good standing” that needs to be followed. It is not appropriate to have one or two people try to run a person out of the community with threats or whatever it might be.
There are, I believe, are approved ways of sanctioning a people within the community I would like to see this practiced! There are people in the community who have behaved in more offensive ways than I have seen of Cypher.

Help me remember that nothing is going to happen to me today that You and I together cannot handle!
The term “in good standing” is being used as a legal phrase here, LegoFox. And in some respects it could be clarified for those that don’t deal with legal phrases often. The clarification is as simple as:
The MNFurs Board has not banned the person from coming to events because of dangerous or inappropriate behavior (e.g. malice destruction of event space property).
I suspect Cypher is in good standing as he was part of FM’15 staff as it’s a MNFurs event.
