My name is Brenan, I either go by Biokat93 or Creatorofthemasses, I’ve never done much furry related stuff but I’ve always admired from afar the craftsmanship that goes into making the costumes!

I was introduced to the MNFurs site via a Sydney Armstrong in the Minnesota Cosplayers facebook group.

My question is how are heads done? I’ve been working with foam and I’ve been looking at tutorials and videos of what I can find, but I’m not finding much that is very helpful? Is there a better place for tutorials and videos and things?

I want to make a talk jaw with my head (it’s actually for someone else but I still want the experience because I plan on doing some other projects in the future)

    Hello Brennan,

To answer your question, It depends on what you are trying to achieve.

IF you are just going for a Tooney head then you would use foam and either a stuff ducktape dumpy or a maniequne head to sculpt around. (Don’t do what I did and leave the ducktape in there, it makes the head quite stuffy, hot and very uncomfortable to ware). Another method is to build the head around a helmet or brim-less hat of some type.

For more realistic head I would look at the utilizing a resin face piece and sculpt around that.

    I hope this helps

I just went at it and got my head done, the prototype at least. I didn’t use any of the methods that you suggested and it turned out alright, I just need to get the guy who it’s for and make it so it fits his head
