I will have some informational text for discussion group “how to host a panel” at meeting. May I post that here for our tinychat users or do you wish me to start a sub-thread?

The following outline will be useful to those attending the “How to run a panel” workshop at the community meeting.
Remember, if you can not attend, tiny chat should be available.

How to run a panel outline

Icebreaker: who’s run a panel before?

    Overview:
Panel will be composed of 2 parts.
    1:Panels at Furry Migration
    2:Effective panel methods

    Furry migration:
    Who’s going?

    Plug website, its all there:
    90 minute “slot” system.
5-10 minute icebreaker. Why an icebreaker?
20-50 minute “core” panel, this will be second part of today
15-30 minutes discussion and conversation. Why do this?
Always try to leave and wrap up 15minutes before end of slot. Underline necessity and need for professionalism.

    Questions about Furry Migration?

    Part 2: “core panel” tactics.
    The 3 E’s

    Educate
    Entertain
    Engage

    Educate
Research: Wikifur, adjective species, etc. Always be willing to learn more. Expand what you know, include others, collaborate. Example: Kylle Gold and adjective species.
    Organization: outline, use wire framework
organize into “bite size” chunks. List in way that avoids jumping subjects. Easier to audience, easier to
    avoid tangents.

    Entertain.
What is more entertaining: science film or mythbusters?
The icebreaker, introduce you and fish for eager participants.
Use clear “every-person” examples for your points.
Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse! Don’t read notes.
    Example: role playing panel
    Make it fun!
Transition, what are the 3 E’s?

    Engage.
Ask questions! Use of rhetorical questions or known answers. “never ask a question you can not predict answer.
Use audience example. Fish for easy example. Avoid open mic night. Ask questions with specific easy answers (yes/no, or one word answer)
    practice “canned answers”
Draw the audience in, them into the show. Synergy with Entertain, adds to legitimacy of Educate
example: Magic tricks and “getting member from the audience.”

    Recap:
    What are 3 E’s?
    Who’s going to furry migration?
Got something you wish to share? Convention plug.
