Great idea, Tek!
It looks like I will most likely be able to participate as well. I’ll plan on grabbing a form at the next meet. (I’ll actually be there for once! 😛 )
Great idea Tek. If needed I would still be willing to help shuttle people with my vehicle as I don’t think I would be able to walk in the parade. This might help cut down the number of runs you would have to make with the van. Either way is fine by me, just let me know if you want the extra paw.Ringer Racsky wrote:
Regarding events afterwards: I’m glad this was brought up, because I’d very much like to plan for some kind of congregation afterwards. Any suggestions are welcome, keeping in mind our general location. We’ll probably want to avoid downtown and head someplace slightly less crowded and with more parking.I am all for an after parade hangout, however my knowledge of they city’s is lacking so I have no suggestions on the where.
I used
the whole page
for this!
DINNER PLANS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED: 6:30pm Famous Dave’s @ MOA.All are welcome to join, even if you don’t walk in the parade.
One thing to consider is that when the parade is over, the mass hoards of rampaging spectators will clobber the restaurants within a wide radius… so in the interest of coordinating a large group of people (suppose 20-25 suiters and 5-10 handlers) and say an 80% attendance at food (20-28 people), we may want to consider doing something outside the immediate area. So… Famous Dave’s at MOA has a nice party setup shared with Kokomo’s (the restaurant next to them). They are able to handle 30+ people no problem in a semi-private dining room, and they’re fine with separate checks. Hearing no other suggestions, I propose meeting there at or around 6:30 – 7:00 pm, which should give everyone plenty of time to change, and make a leisurely drive down to the mall from the shuttle parking area. I am waiting to hear back from them on availability of the room for that period, so we should probably figure out if this is something we want to do.Any other ideas?MOA is an easy 14 mile jaunt on 2 hiways (52 to 494) so it should be quick and easy to get to without having to deal with the crazy traffic that will be leaving St Paul.-

Updates Ahoy! We’ve received official information from the parade and it’s been added to the first page. Cliff’s notes:
- The parade starts at 2pm and staging opens at noon on Saturday, January 25. It would be ideal to arrive by 1:30.
- Our staging area is #93 – this is in the southern part of the staging area, on Colborne St. It sounds like entering from the southern side (Jefferson & Colborne) is the best bet.
- Prepare to walk! The length of the route is around 1.5 miles.
- We are currently working to arrange ride(s) from the end of the parade back to the staging area.
- Non-parade vehicles are not allowed within the staging area
Tek is offering a shuttle option for anyone interested in parking south of downtown and riding in (details)
As usual, let me know if there are any questions or concerns.
sounds good, i will end up doing the carpool Tek is offering and have the location programed in my GPS now so yay there…. I think. Anyway shouldn’t be any problems from this end that I see and see everyone there that is attending. 🙂This post was deleted to minimize confusion in the logistics.-

Tek, I will plan on being at the shuttle area about the same time. Since I am not walking in the parade I can pick you up when you park the van and give you a ride closer to the staging area so you don’t have to walk.Tek, I will plan on being at the shuttle area about the same time. aah ah sweet, thanks dude!
When we did this a few years ago we went to a very good German restaurant afterwards down on 7th ave on the southwest corner of the city. I forgot the name of it… but in spite of being a small place it was pretty dead; even during the winter carnival. We pretty much had the place to ourselves after the parade. Anyone remeber the name of it?-- MNFurs Photography Head--

This one? It would certainly be convenient!

ringer, yes, that’s the one. This stupid thing keeps telling me my reply can’t be blank every time I try to “QUOTE” someone else. They sat us in the far back left corner in that photo. They were quiet when we arrived, but were busy and noisy by the time we left. Live music and a lot of “sing along” stuff going on. I dunno, some folks might like that… I don’t really care for it. The food was interesting tho.
I called the board of Ed about using the parking lot at 360 Colborne St also… it’s down on that side of Cliff, and it’s only 1/3 of a mile from the restaurant. That would be a great meeting place if we can use it. Got voicemail, will try again tomorrow. If we’re going to go that restaurant, we should make a reservation… we have twice as many people this year, and they might get busy.
All good points. I do like the idea of finding a place closer to St Paul considering that everyone will be coming from different directions but I’m not married to any particular place either, and MOA is still a fine suggestion. Does anyone else have thoughts or preferences?
Miscellaneous Updates:- Please check the post on the first page to see whether your name is there. If so, and there’s no asterisk (*) next to it, then I have your completed waiver. Otherwise one will still be needed on the day of the parade.
- Also keep an eye on this thread for final meeting and transportation info. Tek is looking into alternate parking arrangements and I need to confirm the approximate staging location for our group.
- As usual, please get in touch if you have any questions.
