Phew, Its been awhile since posting on the forums.

The eagle eyes amongst you may have noticed that I am posting details regarding the elections for the Minnesota Furs board of Directors. My term on the board of directors is coming to a close & I don’t plan on re-running for election. I’ve served 4 years on the board and I feel like thats been ample enough time. Yes, there are several projects and things I wanted to do that I couldn’t get around to just because of how busy I’ve been. But being on the board has been legit one of my prouder accomplishments in my life and I am so happy I was trusted by the community to serve on the board.

I love this community a lot, and Im not just saying that. What we have here is so crazy awesome. I’ve been from some other states, and they have virtually no furry presence like we do here. I get a bit choked up over how special this group is sometimes, especially when I am on stage at Furry Migration to do my “shameless nonprofit plugs”. I trip over my words, not because I am a bad public speaker, but moreso because I am trying not to get too emotional by seeing our lovely community in the crowd in front of me. Legit though, seeing our community from my perspective legit results in me sometimes having to hold back tears. I love seeing us all come together and celebrate the furry fandom together. This fandom is unlike anything else I’ve ever seen and it really is something special. Spoilers, I legit had some tears in 2021 when we all celebrated Legonnare & Vulan’s departure as con-chair(s).

While its not over, and I still have several months remaining until I pass on my role to the next director, its been a wild ride. The hardest challenge during my two terms was the conflict of COVID-19 and the troubles it presented to our community, specifically shuttering the events and forcing our (and the conchairs hand) into cancelling Furry Migration in 2020. Those decisions are by no means easy to make and those weren’t the only challenge that me and the rest of the directors had to face.

For us to have what we have here in MN, it requires a few of you to step up and fill these seats. I know its daunting and a scary thing to be officially recognized on a board of directors for a nonprofit (Yes, Minnesota Furs is a 501c3 nonprofit!). But if I could do it, I am more than confident you all can too. Trust me, when I ran for my first term, and was elected. I had no #$@&ing idea what I was doing. But I like to think I did alright. Those that decide to run for the board, either accepting a nomination, or self nominating, don’t be afraid of the job at hand. You have a great network of other directors on the board that have your back when things feel overwhelming or scary.

I plan on continuing to serve our community as a staff member after April 2024, but taking a step back from a lot of the leadership duties because heck, I need a break. But I look forward to working with whomever takes the seat(s) over, and I am immensely excited to see where Minnesota Furs goes next.

Thank you so much for all your hard work Rico! To myself and many of us in MNFurs, you have been such a positive impact in our community and I look forward to seeing you continue to staff and help out the best you can. Your efforts will surely not be forgotten.

On a more personal note, you were the first person to talk to me in the MNFurs Discord and I will never forget that, I will never forget how welcome you made me feel online and at events. Through all the trials of the last two years, I am happy to consider you my friend and one I respect and think highly of.
