Do they like Anime, Sci Fi, Art, and theatre?
If so, I doubt they’ll have much a problem. What ends up being polarizing/confusing is the cosplay. You can point people to Anime or Sci Fi cosplay and most geeks or semi-geeks can pick out a TV or Movie character. Since furry cosplay isn’t driven by existing content it makes people confused (My dad’s wife is one of those people so I’ve stopped talking or showing her pictures of the studio I do for Furry Migration).
Franky, I’d encourage you and your parents to join us at the Spring Picnic. As stated a lot of the non-profit board of directors and convention staff will be there to talk if they want more information about the fandom in general and MNFurs/Furry Migration specifically. Plus we have a fair number of parents part of the community that they can chat with as well.
It also is informal enough if they honestly don’t feel comfortable and want to leave they can hurting people’s feelings there.
