    Tell us about yourself

My name is Nick, I am a 32 year old transgender man, but most of the community probably knows me either as “the loud guy” or “furry con dad!” My fursonas are Nomu the Akita and Party Favor the Spotted Hyena.

What brought you to the furry fandom?

In all honesty, the creativity and freedom people can have in this community was too tempting for me to pass up! I love seeing everyone’s versions of themselves and the characters they bring to life.

How will you continue to volunteer in the community after being elected to the board?

I would love to set up more opportunities for charity drives, animal education events, and a multitude of other things to strengthen the good nature behind those that came before me.

How do you view events like Furry Migration and MidWinter Frolic impact the Minnesota Furs community today and tomorrow?

Events like this aren’t just for the local furry community, they’re also for the local “normal” people as well as out of state/country furries that come to see exactly what makes MNFurs like no other. They give a chance to show people (like myself) what exactly makes the area so special, and hopefully makes them come back for more.

What are your strengths that you will bring to the board?

I’m loud and fun! I don’t mean that in a bragging way, I mean this in a way where I know how to draw the proper attention to myself when I need to. It’s tough to be silly without a fursuit sometimes, but knowing how to connect to non-furries can help open doors and opportunities otherwise unavailable.

What do you feel are areas where you want to further develop yourself? Why?

I have a lot of passion, and a lot of ideas, but I do know I can get overwhelmed if I don’t know where to start. I know I would definitely benefit from learning how to take an idea I have from just a blip in my brain to something other people can enjoy without feeling like I have to unweave a spiderweb of other thoughts.

How can Minnesota Furs reach out to other communities local and national in furry and other fandoms?

Engage in social media! It’s not always nice to dive into Twitter, Facebook, etc, but especially with the COVID-19 pandemic still looming hot on everyone’s heels it has become the most major hub from what is happening in the furry global community. It’s where most people do go to learn about conventions and what goes on during them. Having a small team of people who can morph this space into a positive outreach can do amazingly well for linking in with practically any other fandom community you can think of!

What are two things that you would like to see accomplished/improved during your tenure?

I would like to continue to see POC furries be included not just within the community, but within the board itself over time. There are voices there still needing to speak that may need a little more time to gain the confidence and sense of safety, and that can only happen by continuing to pave a path that all people can easily walk upon. I would also like to hopefully entertain the idea of scholarships for future college-bound furries, but I don’t yet have a solid idea of how to yet accomplish this.

One goal of MNFurs is to promote education. How do you intend on helping promote education?

Depending on what type of education is needed, I have ties to the local reptile community as well as some experience with exotic birds and their care. Regardless of the subject matter, whatever I do teach I do it with the understanding that my way of thinking and the knowledge I know is always changing and evolving much as the world around us does. Being open, honest, and humble is one part of allowing for a welcoming learning experience, but another part of it is knowing that I myself am always learning and doing better then I was before.

Minnesota Furs can become a second life and a second job. How do you plan to keep yourself active in other things and other communities? What are your hobbies and can those be separate from Minnesota Furs?

I play D&D, I crochet, I foster birds, I have the amazing experience of getting to help a few dear friends of mine with their reptiles and reptile education, and I do it all with a loving long-time partner by my side. Not everything I do has to be furry, but it is nice to be able to blend essences of my interests into whatever mish-mash keeps me going for the day.
