On Arranging a Mankato Meet

Hey guys, since I noticed there’s a few folks from the Mankato area, a place I spent my childhood in, and how well the St. Cloud branch was doing with their meets, I’m thinking we should try to set something up for a gathering there sometime. I’ve set this thread up to get discussion going, since I’d like to see what you guys would be interested in before I make anything official.

My suggestion for a place to gather is the Jake’s Stadium Pizza on Stadium Road, we could arrange a party in the back room on a weekend that everyone feels they’d be available to come visit, but I encourage other suggestions as well.

I grew up in Southwest MN but don’t get down there anymore, especially with my lack of vehicle. I’ll poke the couple furs I know in the area with this thread.

Zepaw contacted me. I live in Mankato, so I’m available for a meet up at any weekend, so long as I have at least a week’s advance notice so I can get it off work. We could meet at jakes or at Grizzly’s, which has a private party area as well.

I head down that way once a year myself for camping with friends, always a weekend in july. if there is a meet when I am down there I will make it a point to drop in.

I’d say Mid-July would be best, since most folks are doing things for the 4th, and doing it in june might be too short-notice for some people. Another option is the first weekend in August, because that is when Mankato has Ribfest, so there could be an outing to that event as well.

Cyrus, just as a reminder…When you plan to make this official remember to submit an event submission.  To do this, click on EVENTS at the top between BI-WEEKLY MEET and COMMUNITY.  Then in the next page, click the EVENT SUBMISSION FORM link towards the top of that page.

We like to have at least a month’s notice to allow proper advertising of the event.

Right now I’ve been tied up with a family vacation this coming week, and then preparations for Anthroncon the next month. But when I get some spare time I’ll see what it takes to arrange something.

I’m mostly still waiting to hear what ideas people might have, and if anyone wants to help pitch in with arranging. Otherwise, I’m still leaning towards Jake’s Pizza.

Guessing it’ll be either a mid-July or August event, like Malvina said. Unfortunately I may resort to scheduling it during a normal meet weekend, because those are the weekends I have free from work to attend to stuff.

If this hasn’t been set up yet I recommend October. IMO it’s the best time of the year to be outside, so if it’s not raining sibley park would be fun.

What exactly goes on at the bi-weekly meet? I guess I would just show up and tell someone hey it’s that one noob from the forum lol? Does anyone bring random games or is it just mostly sitting around talking?

October is a bit far out. I figure one in August. If it goes well a follow up in October would be fun. Trying to determine days that work for my friends in Mankato.  as for what goes on its a general social gathering. Chat, games, and whatnot. No shame in coming I and introducing yourself as a mewb to the group, always great to net new furs. ^^
