I don’t know if this would be considered the correct forum to post this, but I can’t find any other more suitable..

Through the years of being a furry, I’ve been approached with very flavorful, per se, comments and reactions. Due to the circumstances of said reactions, I’ve always been very reserved with my lifestyle, only feeling more open and relaxed about what I truly am since moving and joining such a welcoming group as MNFurs.

Has anyone else encountered unsavory reactions when coming out as a fur? I’m curious to learn about how others have been approached since coming out to others. I admit I still am opening up as I spend more time, and get to know others within the MNF community, yet I’m curious to know about other’s experiences.

If you have any specific stories, please do share! I’m looking forward to the opportunities that present themselves as I grow more comfortable with expressing my inner furry self, and any and all stories would be of great assistance! ^_^

Truth be told, I have never felt the urge to really tell anyone I’m a furry. If folks find out they find out. If I’m put on the spot about it I will try my best to explain what a furry is but its not what I feel ashamed about. Yet, something I’ not quite going to start yelling out at Christmas or Thanksgiving anytime soon. Although, I don’t quite hide it in my home there is a few furry things hanging on my wall that no one has really asked about yet. I think its just best if you display what you like or are and let people figure it out on their own.

    I'm just a Hodgepodge.

I was a closet furry for about as long as I can remember…Fox McCloud from Star Fox 64 was my hero back in the days and that’s when I created Drake.  He used to be a red fox, but over the years I changed his sona to a silver fox.  Drake used to be Fox’s brother, but ever since I joined MNFurs, this changed dramatically…Let ‘s go into that more below!

As I mentioned above, I was a closet furry for a long time…When I moved to the cities back in 2012 this is where I let it all out when I joined the community and was surrounded by others with the same interests.  Things unfurled from there and I am proud of where I am now.  🙂

I’ve always had thoughts of being a fox, myself.  Always being sneaky and sly with my actions, but only in a playful manner. It wasn’t until I stumbled across the story Trouble’s Tales in 2004-2005 that I was able to put a name to what I was, and given a name. What first started off as a normal Red fox with a dark, damaged appearance has slowly grown to a more bright and colorful, flame-like appearance.

Years of being called freak by family and friends when I was younger forced me into hiding, but now that I’ve found others that are accepting, I’m becoming more open and developing my character more and more.. I’m even relaxing around the house with my roommates, wearing my tail, thanks to ‘shedding my fur’. ^_^

Everyone I work with, everyone in my family, and most of my friends know I’m a furry (I post pictures of my fursuit in the making on my Facebook all the time).  The vast majority of these people just think it’s cool (like 95%)!  They ask how the suit is coming along from time to time.  And it’s always a pleasant surprise to hear someone say something like, “Oh!  My brother is a furry…”  Hopefully that gives some encouragement!

I kind of jumped out of the “fuzzy closet” with out much thought of it, some thing I tend to do with a lot of things for better or werce. I came out to my grandmother first since she is the persone I have been closets too my hole life and was saddened that she was not happy that I had found some were that I felt I belonged, and truth be told it was a trend that seemed to permeate the hole of my family save my sisters, nieces and nephews who call me foxy Jon. At work I am known know for being a furry, and once a year I were my suit in before work, and out after witch is always something I enjoy.

    To be honest –

If you are yourself normally there is no closet you are in. You don’t need to really scream out to the world “I’m A Furry” you just have to be yourself.

For me I never told anyone I was a furry, my friends, and even some of my family members figured it out before I did ;). I’m not too loud that I am a furry, nor am I too quiet about it.

In my professional life if you looked in my office you could either think

    • I like animals
    • I like video games
    • I am a furry
    • Or all of the above

I don’t blast it – for my clients and customers if they stop over it would cause too much of a distraction.

For family when it came up I just explained using background in pen and paper and video gaming.  Costuming comes up naturally and makes sense to most people.  The only family member the conversation hasn’t come up is with my father, it never came up and didn’t need to.

When people ask I never deny it but I don’t go “I’m a furry” it doesn’t usually add to the relationship/friendship for some.

In end I usually tell people – If it is stopping you and impeding your life yes then tell people.  But be yourself and if it comes up then talk about it.

I never had a problem being Furry. I never felt a need to tell anyone or justify my actions. No one ever called me on it, or even had a problem if they found out.

    I don't meow but, Meow.

I really appreciate all the input from everyone. This has all helped me greatly.

I admit this makes me more comfortable with the sense of expressing myself, especially around other like-minded individuals.

I swore to myself that when I moved, I’d start fresh with everything. With the support I’ve already received from the community, its now safe to say I’m starting to realise just how much I’ve been holding back until now.

I was always interested in the unusual or fringe culture growing up, I spent most of the 1990s and 2000s going to raves and after-parties. Quite a few chibis and furries dress up for the events and being kinda of a exhibitionist myself I was interested what I saw as being my “true” self. However I never really thought of myself as a “furry” and more of a nocturnal animal, I was blown away when I found out about scalelies. My raptor persona matches my outlook, personality, and need to be part of a pack.
