What should i do?

so ive been working pretty hard this past month trying to improve my drawing skills enough to the point where i could make my fursona without having to commission something and well i was looking around at some art work i ended up finding some art that is almost 100% identical to what i wanted my fursona to be with only minor differences should i try and find the original artiest and ask him if its ok to use his art to make my fursuit off of?

Definitely ask the original artist before using any content they made

I find it’s okay to link to the art saying “like this, but…” as long as the maker knows it’s not actually your character.

Asking of course never hurts either.
