    Hello MNFurs community!

    This thread is being created to have open discussions for events.  These events do not need to be narrowed down to anything specific, but to present ideas for everyone to see.

    Why have I created this thread?  Probably the #1 reason is because I have many community members present ideas to me and I simply cannot keep track of every idea.  What happens too is that I also forget later if ‘X’ community member is not persistent on tracking their idea(s).  With this thread, we can track ideas and give them more thought.

    Below I will outline briefly the class-based levels of events…

    * * * * * * * * * *

    For events we have CLASS I, II, & III events…The CLASS III events are categorized as smaller events that are more logistic-friendly and have a low risk factor…Some examples include movie nights, bowling events, & fursuit romps.  Planning-wise these are easy to piece together and most of the time there are no issues in the bigger picture.  For attendance at such events, it can range from 30-40 attendees.

    Next is CLASS II events…These types of events are categorized as medium (or medium-high) events.  More logistics need to be looked at ahead of time needs to happen and conversations with the Event staff and board need to take place…A good number of volunteers is necessary as well to pull it off.  There is also a moderate risk factor with these events depending on the event location…These locations can have their own set of rules and may require deposits.  Some examples of this are retreats like a camping get-together, Holiday + Midwinter Party, and parades like the King Boreas Grande Day Parade in St. Paul.  For attendance, this can target 50-100 attendees.

    Finally there is CLASS I events…These types of events are categorized as high events and will require a lot of pre-planning and volunteers to pull off.  With this there is a higher risk factor from planning, location, any type of deposits, etc.  A very good example of a this style of an event is the picnics and Con Zero.  For attendance, the target audience is 100+ attendees.

    * * * * * * * * * *

    I hope the above information helps outline how an event is categorized.  With this being shared, feel free to start a discussion on any ideas YOU may have for an event.  This thread will be reviewed often and input will be shared.

    APPROVING AN EVENT

    When it comes to getting an event approved, there are processes involved.  These processes involve discussing the logistics with the event runner(s), getting it approved from the Events Dept, and eventually the board.

    CLASS III events are easier to get approved and the Events Dept usually has the final say on whether or not it will work.

    CLASS I & II events will need more board discussion…They will want to know why said event is happening, its purpose, and target audience.

    I will actually go ahead and start this off…Made the initial post to be more informative.

    Some of you have approached me with ideas of having something this winter before the elections in March…As of right now there are not that many events out there that are for sure happening other than the parade on January 25.

    Some have mentioned a mini-party, or movie night, or another bowling event somewhere…The mini-party idea however I am a tad hesitant on…With that word PARTY being used and then advertising it, this could be seen as a CLASS II event and I am trying to avoid having those out there right now.

    Until the elections are out of the way, CLASS I & II events will have a high rate of not getting approved…That being said, let’s try to look at more CLASS III-type events ’till after the elections.

    * * * * * * * * * *

    Bowling event = Ramsey Super Bowl, Classic Bowl, or elsewhere

    Dinner get-together = Kokomo’s (MoA), Kyoto, Osaka, or elsewhere

    Movie night = MoA Theater or elsewhere

    Above is a copy/paste from another thread…I really like the movie night idea and I know another community member wants to plan another bowling get-together.  With this, let the discussions begin.  =)

    * * * * * * * * * *

    On a side note…Guys, this is a great way to obtain volunteer hours.  I have heard random chatter of some knowing they do not have enough hours and are close or they just need some period.  Granted some just want there to be events to attend to help the winter go by quicker, but this is a chance to get hours in before the elections.

    If planning and running an event is a first for you, the Events Dept can help point you in a direction to help ease that process.  We cannot run the event for you, but we can help you along the way.  =)

    A couple more notes:

    An obvious component of a successful, well-attended event is location, and it also seems to be one of our biggest challenges simply because it’s impossible to have an exhaustive knowledge of every possible venue. That’s where our community members come in! We’re always looking for new ideas in this regard, so if anyone has connections to a place that would welcome the group (park, bowling alley, restaurant, ANYTHING), we’d love to hear about it.

    Furthermore, event suggestions don’t have to be limited to “I want to do X, so I’ll plan an event for it.” There are also plenty of opportunities to be part of a larger whole, like ZooBoo or the Winter Carnival Parade. These kinds of things can be great for our reputation while also being a lot of fun.

    Even if you’re not interested in running an event, sharing any connections or ideas you may have is a great way to help the group.

    With all of this being said…

    What would you like to do?

    What would be fun to you?

    Got a solid idea and want to run it?

    Please share!  =)

    Some ideas have been presented to me from other community members.

    Firstly, holding a bowling event at Brunswick Zone XL in the central part of the metro…I cannot remember which one as there are a few around the metro.  This should be fun and if an event happens at said location, this can be another venue to use in the future.

    Bowling is also still a possibility and we have a for sure location that we can go back to.

    Secondly, a location that has a dinner theater and also a full restaurant attached to it…I need to confirm the location again and then I will edit this post.

    Nothing has been submitted to Events yet, but thought I would post this in case any discussions want to be started.

    Posty posty! -> https://www.mnfurs.org/forums/topic/event-idea-fursuit-curling/

    Also, if I may add, it does not need to be fursuit ONLY. Anyone could participate, but fursuiting is allowed.

    With Spring well on its way, I have a question for all of you !

    Where do you think it would be fun to have a fursuit romp?

    These are always fun for many because it’s an awesome excuse to get out and suit.  🙂

    PREVIOUS VENUES WHERE ROMPS HAVE BEEN HELD –> French Regional Park, T. Wirth Park, Mill Ruins Park, Carroll’s Woods Park

    Nothing concrete yet…Once ideas start rolling in, I will keep them on the back burner for some Spring/Summer CLASS III events.

    – LATE SPRING / SUMMER EVENT PLANS IN THE WORKS –

    CURRENT PHASE:  IDEA / THINKING

    IDEAS:  FURSUIT ROMP, OUTDOOR GATHERING, BOWLING, CAMPING

    I currently have some ideas floating around in my head…The above ideas listed are what is going through my fuzzy little head and this is where I would like some discussion to start.

    First idea and like last year, I did a couple of fursuit romps at some parks located in central metro territory.  People genuinely had fun with these and I want to keep them as frequent events so the community has things to do.  The two parks I did mine at were T. Wirth Park and French Regional Park.  We all know what a fursuit romp is and what it entails so I will not go any further with this first idea.

    The second idea I have is some type of outdoor gathering…This may include meeting up at a park and playing v-ball or swimming at a public beach or frisbee golf.  This idea came to mind because during the spring/summer time, people want to be outside versus inside somewhere.

    Third idea is another bowling night…We have not had one of these for a while now.  I voiced this idea in the chat at a random time and people want to see it happen, but where?  We have three places that I know of that allow fursuiting.  The three are Classic Bowl, Super Bowl, & Tuttle’s Bowling.  Anyone know of any other places?  Now, it does not have to be a place that allows suiting, but it’s always fun to have this.

    Last idea I have is camping…This is another great outdoor get-together that many have fun with.  I know Unico does his own and he may be doing this again later in the summer, but it’s too early to tell as of now.  What do you think?  Fun idea?  If so, what are some places?

    Now that I have presented these ideas, what do YOU the community think?  Let’s try and get some discussions going.  🙂

    I really enjoyed the couple bowling outings we had at Tuttle’s, and honestly the only reason we didn’t do more over the winter was that it was too costly to reserve lanes due to their increased activity during the winter. Now that it’s warming up, bowling as an occasional part of the bi-weekly meets (which seemed to be well-liked) should be doable again.

    ACTIVITY TOPIC: Bowling

    I’ve had a couple of people asking me if another bowling event is going to be happening.  I do know that there is one community member piecing together the logistics at a venue…No concrete information yet, but I know I will hear about it at some point.  I will let that person share the information about it though.

    Another community member brought up the idea of Tuttle’s Bowling again…We have held bowling events there in the past and curiosity is raised on it happening again soon.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Don’t know if this has been done/suggested before but I think a Valley Fair day would be fun.

    Skyler – I know that there is someone that does this when the Fall season starts…I think it’s Turka?

    What times of the year is Valley Fair open anyways?

    I figured there had to at least be a small group going already. Valley Fair is open until the first of September. It’s usually better to go later in the season when lines are practically nonexistent. Would also make it easier to plan if this were to be made a class II event.

    Tickets are usually $36.99, but discounts are available for groups of 15+. Discounted price varies by date. From July 5 – August 24 price is $27.75 per ticket, after which they drop to $26.50 per until closing in September.

    Okay cool !

    Now that this information is out there, perhaps somebody might do an impromptu Valley Fair get-together…Who knows.  =)
