Well, I have some bad news. I’ll only be able to stay for an hour because my handler is convinced that somebody will break into her car or we’ll both get killed. She doesn’t trust the neighborhood at all. I’ve tried my hardest to bargain with her and stay longer but she’s not having any of it. I am bringing quite a few snacks though. Keep an eye open for the three-horned yellow thing with one eye.loved the avent drake I am ordering you to do a nother one. I had so much fun can’t whate for drake con lol.I think we need a less ghetto location next time, to be frank. Not being racist…i think..but i did feel really out of place there and a lot of others did too. If i’m wrong, just let me know please. Party was much fun! Thank you drake!@Pepper said:

Party was much fun! Thank you drake! Its hard to feel out of place when surrounded by friends and community. The location was fantastic. They let us do what we wanted to and there were staff on hand at the door. it was a very positive atmosphere with the murals and children’s art on the wall. It reminded us that no matter where we are at, we are a welcoming community who celebrates diversity and understanding. The location, I felt, was fantastic.

The underlying issue wasn’t so much of a cultural thing… more that the community center was extremley BUSY during the first part of the event. I stayed inside the room fornthe first part mosly becuase it was so crowded in the other parts of the community center.I was for a little bit early on worried about punks wearing gang colors coming in and harrassing the fursuiters, but I was glad to not see that crowd in attendance. I think Snap said it pretty well. It was a welcoming place- probably one of the few where people in that area of North Minneapolis could go to escape the turmoil of that region.
That also said… may I remind you we had far more Drama and insults thrown at us at Snowpocalypse by the Lacross team and the truck drivers, and they were as cacausian one as can be.

Well I will admit that at first I was a little uncomfortable but was over it after a short time. As fare as the area around the place I didn’t think it was that bad. would be happy to go back there again.Lego Fox – I am very glad to hear that you had a good time. Haha, DrakeCon is not really something that is going to happen ever…Pepper – I appreciate the feedback and I will add on below when I give my own review on the event. Glad you had lots of fun too
Snap – Within our multi-purpose room, everyone was having fun whether mingling or hanging with their group of friends…Some members had to get their bearings when coming in at first, but turned around (quote – positive atmosphere). The two staff members were very nice and welcoming to us as well…The one lady on the staff loved the fursuits.
Yarrick – I agree with Yarrick…When concerns were brought up to me that were more…Cultural if you will, I noticed it seemed to be aimed at the big crowds outside our room…Therefore, members would have rather changed in our room. Yes, it was good that there were no questionable crowds as well.

– REVIEW –
To start off, we had a great turnout for the event…I came up with a rough head count of 63 (myself included). We did have some members walk in later that I may have missed…Safe to assume maybe 70-75-ish to be more realistic…Lots of fursuiters as well which was wonderful. Two walked in right at the very end, but they mainly showed up because they were looking for someone. For the few MONFurs (Middle of Nowhere) members that showed up, THANK YOU…was awesome to have you here!
There was a big variety for food and everyone, from the looks of it, ate lots of it. The main entrees I saw as big hits along with fruit/veggie items…Some of the desert items were being eaten, but not as much. Soda was also consumed highly which would definitely explain the high energy of some members, haha.
Rock Band and Persona 4 was a hit…Don’t think there was ever a time where that was NOT being played. Thank you again Queuethulu for bringing in the TV and equipment for it. For the times I mingled over there, I caught some good singing (*wink wink*), haha.
I announced fursuit musical chairs and there was interested, but it quickly turned into stacking chairs instead (lol). What ended up happening is a big fursuit photo shoot which was fun as well. I did not announce limbo because with how everything was going and members making their own fun, I let everything just pan out its own way. =)
Going into location…Going to be careful on how I word some things here. Some members at the start were concerned about this. Yes, this was in the northern Minneapolis area. With the many places I researched and wanting to be more central, this place caught my eye. Heard a lot of good things about it and many other groups continuously use it on the weekends. Another aspect was the multi-purpose room…Very spacious, but back on topic…I heard some concerns about the area surrounding the community center being shady. I was aware of this when looking at this place, but did NOT want to make that a cause for big concern. The staff we had on hand for that night were great and they do monitor things outside the community center.
Next topic was the culture surrounding the community center…Again, going to be very careful on how I word things. There was a group in the multi-purpose room before us and I was not expecting another smaller group in the room next to the kitchen area or basketball in the gym…A lot of this goes back to Yarrick’s response above, but just adding some extra things in to cover other aspects. Some members felt uncomfortable or out of place when leaving the room to use the rest room or go to the kitchen…Some may not have left our room for that purpose. When I was walking around outside our room it was a friendly atmosphere and the staff were great to work with. As I said above in response to Snap, they loved our fursuits and they hope to have us back in the future. Also to add on to something Snap mentioned…Yes, there was diversity and a…cultural clash from time to time during, but we were welcomed warmly and we are wanted back…That is very cool !
I heard some concerns with the kitchen…To start off first, it was cool that we had plenty of options to cook items and/or warm items up…Also had a fridge and freezer too. The kitchen did not have the best utensils at times, hence why I mentioned that members should bring their own. Parts of it were not as clean as we would have liked it to be. This is something that can be examined more closely at another event similar. Germs was another issue as well…Previous group must not have cleaned up all that well or just not cleaned up enough…It is what it is at that point as we made it work in the end.
SIDE NOTE: I know we also had some kids trying to get into the kitchen…I stopped a couple, hence why we kept it closed. I also had to stop a couple from entering our room and I someone else mentioned that before it started, some tried to use the PS3…Monitored that as best as I could as we were getting setup.
In conclusion, this event turned out to be successful with a huge turnout. From my mingling throughout the event, everyone said they were having a blast…Donations were good too. I hope that this is something that can become either an annual venue (midwinter event) or say…Every few months. This can always be a new topic of discussion at a later time with some new locations.

agreed drake when first walking in I was a little uncomfortable but then the staff smiled and waved and I was over it. the room was grate the food was of the best nom and I was sad when it ended. the folks there seemed nice I didn’t have any trouble with them and was not uncomfortable going out into the halls. the region around the center didn’t give me reason for concern, I didn’t even know I was in north Minneapolis. would be glad if we were to have this event again either once a year or every month or two.I will comment on the whole “out of place thing” I did feel a little uneasy in that area, especially given that this particular location is only a few blocks from a known “bad area” of the town were you wouldnt want to be out past sunset.I mostly stayed in the event area and didnt really wander, I did notice some gawking from people and one funny moment (in my eye) was when a pretty obvious PIMP (all white, nice cane, hat, fancy stuff) walked into our event area and promptly turned tail (no pun intended) out the door, but that did remind me that this wasnt a good area, but overall I did feel safe inside, and have all confidence in their staff that if shady characters were to enter looking for trouble that the Police would be called.
FINAL QUESTION:For all that attended, is this something you would like to see happen again?

Yes, I would love to see more parties. :3I would research another place to have it so that it’s always something different. I should have structured that question differently too…I am really just simply asking if everyone wants this type of party to happen again. =)Thank Piro !
