Hey there,
If you remember 3 weeks ago we had spam attack on the website. Part of the reason that got through is because we had some industry leading spam filter turned off at the forum posting level for various reasons. We turned it back on and that has stopped 2 other forum based spam attacks.
Unfortunately, it has marked posts and edits by @drakem, @jac0 , @anthroguy101 posts and edits as spam. When it gets marked as spam it hides the post but If it marks the start of the thread as spam it hides all the messages like you might of notice the bowling discussion has disappeared a few times. This was never intentional and that is why we have marked it as “not spam” each time it has hit the spam filter.
Being that when you use 3rd party API to do spam filter they don’t tell you why something is spam – otherwise spammers can write their content to get around it. But I know from person experience this could be caused by
- Speed of posting/edits
- Language
- Repeating same information
- Amount of links
If this continues to be a real problem the web team will have to look at additional ways to stop the spam without using the current set of 3rd party anti spam services.
Thanks you for your understand and post away.
