I have noticed that some people seem to have a much harder time getting to know people in the furry fandom that others. One idea that I have looked into is the idea of more experienced and older furs mentoring, also known as adopting new furs to help them fit in and make some friends. Any ideas or suggestions? I would like to hear them.I feel like this is a great idea! Me and my friend Melatonin fairly new to the fandom and we would love for someone to help us meet new people because we are very shy.I fully agree with this idea being one of these stated ‘new furs’.
Not exactly sure how to help, though, for aforementioned reasons… ^_^;
My issue is meeting people…I’ve been a fur for…far too long for my age. But this sounds like a fantastic idea! Time to make connections.-

Sounds like an awesome idea ^^I wish I knew more fursNot sure how it would work, but I think this is a great idea, especially for furs like me, who want to be involved but are shy or nervous.-Henrik

I really like this idea. As one of the new furries I would love some help with meeting people. I went to the spring picnic was just way too overwhelming to try and meet people.Several of us already, “mentor”, in a capacity of helping others learn new skills. This is sounding more like a “community liaison” type of thing. Like if Van Wilder was a furry. (Old reference. I’m dating myself at this point)I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread ^_^
This sounds like it could be an interesting idea indeed. I’ve been a furry fan for many many years (a fan of a good number of anthropomorphic characters), but I didn’t see myself as a furry until last year when I started to attend furry events. I don’t have all that many friends in the furry community. I am also somewhat shy because I don’t know how to start up a good conversation with people because it’s not like everyone is interested in what I like to do. So if I could get more friends in the community that this sounds like a good idea.I like this, especially if it was someone or a group of people who were easily identifiable at large gatherings, such as the picnics and cons.When I went to my first furry convention, I was VERY overwhelmed, so I ended up just finding a quiet corner to sit in where I could still watch people. If there was a person or group of people who were these mentors or liaisons, it might have reduced some of the stress and nerves of everything going on around me.
this could be to help a bigger group of people, since we might not know who to talk to for helpIt could work like when you move to different units in the military. When I came back to Minnesota I was assigned a welcome NCO (Non commissioned Officer), she answered my questions, introduced me to people and helped me get a feel for the place. We could have a list of volunteers to help newer furrys or first time con goers out. They could be called something like welcome furs. A supervisor could match new furs to said welcome furs based on interests and whatnot.Could it still apply to furs who’ve been in the fandom for a couple of years but still have challenges meeting other furs?I’ve been in the fandom for one year but I still have a hard time with it
What Aerak said and I very much support this idea!~ Drake M.
