One of the better ways and places to meet up and get going with others I have found, is at the bi-weekly meet-up at the Perkins in Hopkins. It is awkward at first usually, but let yourself open to the chance to join a game (bringing one helps) conversation or many other options are possible. The biggest thing, come to an event.
To touch on your post, I agree on the part with the bi-weekly meets. It’s a more toned-down place people can come to and more quiet.
However with an event, depending on what event it is, it’s more high-energy and someone who is new and quiet may not be noticed that much…One would really have to break out of the shell if you know what I mean.

I wouldn’t mind going to the bi-weekly meet-ups myself, except for one small problem: It’s all the way out in Hopkins and I live in Dinkytown, without a car. I bus everywhere and even I though I could technically bus there, it would take me more than an hour and a half to reach it. I highly doubt it, but it would be nicer if it was relatively closer like say in the twin cities area.I think one part of this is people new to the furry fandom (which is daunting by itself sometimes) and the other part is bring new to the furry community. I myself will be new to Minnesota in under a month with a total of zero people I know in the state, but I’ve been a furry more or less since I found out what a furry is. Some kind of introduction course on furrydom or a mentor system would be my best suggestion for helping those new to the fandom, and I’d love to have either a small personal event or something that would help me meet new friends. I wouldn’t call myself shy, but I have a hard time making new friends, and I think that statement is echoed by a lot of the more introverted furries. Just my two cents.PS – Anything with forced participation is helpful, otherwise I’m liable to sit in the back and watch longingly from afar.
I definitely agree that something where you can’t just sit back and watch would probably be the best way to handle this. I’m usually fairly extroverted but when I’m nervous or apprehensive I get pretty introverted which makes it hard to meet new people. To add on to Marg and Dugan’s post I would suggest an event then. I am hosting another round of community bowling next month and that will be a great way to get in with other furs. Whatever lane you are in you can get to know those people and once you are comfortable then this presents new social opportunities. 🙂Romps are another good way to accomplish this too!
Not all people will like to just jump into things, but there are some who are willing. For those wanting to ease in to things first then the bi-weekly meets are a great starting point.

I think that’s a good idea. Having some alleys consisting of new furs and someone who is friendly and has been in the fandom for a while would help break the ice.I guess I’ll have to try to get to a bowling meet up eventually. I honestly never thought about that.Yeah I went to the picnic too but since I was a kid and stuff I just nervously followed my grandma around I wasn’t really sure what to do or how to meet new people. I remember I talked to somebody in a black cat fursuit and that was about it. I’m pretty shy at times so I think this would be a great idea.
– that was me :3
glad you remember us meeting!
Talk to me anytime ^^
I want to make friends I’m new to MN …but I’m not sure how 🙁 I would like the guidance of an outgoing and friendly fur.i movied here with my mate only a month ago and so far haven’t made too much progress in becoming an active or known member …I wanna be active! But my new job doesn’t allow me to participate in much …though chatting online isn’t a bad start? 🙂
To add on to Jack and Dugan’s post, I will keep some spots open in our lane come next bowling which is July 10 (official post soon). 🙂~ Drake M.
